gomez

My better half says it sounds like you need a (modern) cassette player with a USB output on!

Now apparently coming back into fashion!

Or I could go the whole hog and get John Lennon's in-car record player installed! laugh

And a very prompt response from the developer who suggested changing the "decoder" in the debugging section of settings. I always shy away from anything that says debugging these days (bug-shy after a career in IT) but it does say in there that changing the decoder can fix various problems including Bluetooth playback control. So, right on the money and it is now working perfectly. smile

Been having problems with slow reconnection of BT when returning to the van this week which is only resolved by deleting and repairing my phone with the van radio. Given there are other problems when in the yard close by other of the van's to which I have paired my phone and other drivers who have paired their phones to the van I am in in that day the best plan seems to be to delete the van radio pairing after each shift and repair at the start of the next shift.

When you get into anything more complicated than one device only ever talking to one other device then BT really is a pile of poo! frown

Made the decision to go back to the SABP decoder which does not relinquish control of the BT auto-play event unless you exit the app gracefully as the bug / feature thus activated is useful for resuming playback of my main playlist after listening to a podcast with another app.

So my other options are a Bluetooth transmitter - I have one of those but I think it may be broken as it does not connect very easily if at all
Tried this with my new phone while in receiver mode and seems to connect and work fine so usable as an option if allocated an old van with aux input but no Bluetooth. Just have to remember to press its button to manually Pause/Play which I have gotten out of the habit of.

A new problem I have been having with one particular van is that the phone pairs and connects to the radio fine and the ICE screen is showing the music playing but there is no sound. Had that happen two Friday evenings in a row now on that same van even thought I also had the van in the week and it was OK. No problem with any other van. Playing DAB radio was fine so spent the evening with Iggy on 6 Music rather than my usual playlist.

Tried turning everything off and on again while well away from all other vans and drivers with their phones but no dice. A real head-scratcher and my current working hypothesis is that it is something to do with my previous use of Bluetooth audio in both case was to a pair of headphones. That is, if it is not an actual sporadic fault with that particular van radio.

Been having this problem on and off with several of the vans. One shift they are fine, another shift they are not. Last time though I bit the bullet and did a reset of the van ICE system and that fixed it. Lost all the other driver's pairings and other settings like time display format etc but the important thing is that I got to listen to what I wanted to listen to.

I think this demonstrates that it is actually a fault in the ICE firmware, presumably leading to buffer overflow / memory corruption after many repeated pairings / unpairings and connections / disconnections over several days by several drivers' phones. This kind of usage is not typical in a private car but is common in a fleet vehicle.

There's a lot to be said for a good old jack plug and socket tongue

With these vans my back up is my old PMP and FM transmitter as there is no aux audio input. I don't like leaving my phone hooked up in the van where it is a target for an opportunist sneak thief to break in and take. With the Bluetooth connection and auto-play as I start the van I can just keep the phone in my pocket.

I do also carry a Bluetooth speaker for those occasions I am given a [censored] old van where the radio does not work at all but the sound is not quite as full and cab-filling as I would like
