BQM stopped working

I set BQM up on my line yesterday and it was monitoring fine all night but this morning at around 7:50am it stopped working, got pure red packet loss.

Checked the IP and it hasn't changed so the line hasn't dropped.

The firewall on my HG612 hasn't changed by the looks.

What router, and has it been updated or reset, resetting the ping response to disabled?

I disabled the firewall on the HG612 yesterday.

I didn't touch the firewall on my Home Hub 5 as I thought BQM would have ping'd the HG612 not the HH5.

If you're using a HG612 and a HH5, then most likely the HG612 is operating as a bridge. The connection terminates on the HH5, which is the device that will/should be responding to pings.
But, I thought all HH's didn't respond to ICMP and there was no way to enable it?

I think you had the HG612 responding to pings. Why the BQM kept getting a response until today is interesting. Has your sync changed, even though your IP address hasn't?

Did you reboot the HG612 after you disabled the firewall?

I didn't reboot the HG612 no but the ping responses started working straight after I disabled it.

Can't check the sync today as I'm at work so will report back later.

I wouldn't expect BT to issue me with the same IP though.

I'm not too sure, the HG612 is simply a modem. NAT, DHCP, Firewall and QOS are all disabled.

It does indeed look like the HH5 is blocking the ICMP request, the firewall log is full of them.

Is there any way around this? I thought it would ping the HG612 not the HH5.

If running in bridge mode, the IP layer is only visible to the HH5, since the PPPoE is initiated by the HH5

Is there a reason why the BQM was working fine up until 7:50am?

Or was the HH5 firewall just being lazy?

However the HG612 in bridge mode can still drive Lan port 2 to provide the stats, so it isn't acting purely in modem mode. I wouldn't be surprised if it's firewall could be set to respond to pings.

It's just a piece of kit on the net really. On IPv6 BQM can ping my computer as well as my router. So why shouldn't it be able to ping a router in bridge mode if that's the address it is given?

How about re-enabling its firewall and setting it to respond to pings? Just see what happens .

The worst is that it doesn't work.

Edit: Uh! It would need an external IP address on your Lan. Forget that idea .

It burst back into life when I turned on and turned off the firewall on the HG612 last night. BQM stopped working a couple of hours later again.

Would be an interesting experiment, who has the time?

A least one, if not both, of my HG612s had become a line wrecker. Quite apart from always having provided at least 8Mpbs less than I get now. So sorry, I'm not volunteering.

Also to do it on IPv4 would require an IPv4 block. I wonder if it could support an IPv6 Wan address?

Realistically apart from getting a new router which I am in the process of doing, how can I get BQM working with the HH5 in place.

Can I not get it to target another device on my LAN and open up the ports?

Yes, but you put the device in the DMZ rather than opening up ports.

Make sure the device is too dumb or locked down enough to not a be a security risk/potential bot.

Basically something without a Windows OS on it?

That might work.

I used a Now TV box and the ports I found open on it got protected by port forwarding them elsewhere.

sky hd box might have interesting patterns so interpret with caution.. (I don't know that it does.. just wondering)
