Source IP address of BQM pings.

Please would you tell me the source IP address or source IP network of the BQM pings.

The information would allow me to reduce the number of devices which could get a ping response.

It should be just your first router after the modem, which without knowing what your setup is may be in the same box.

Only on IPv6 should a device be pinged, and that would only be the one you were using when you set up the BQM. With a high probability that address changed soon after anyway.

Edit: I should have pointed out that on IPv6 you need to establish the (hopefully static) router address.

Ignoring ICMP ECHO requests is mistakenly believed to be a security feature, especially on home equipment. Anyone trying to find you and attack you, will be using all the protocols (TCP, UDP, ICMP etc), and won't be stopped by blocking ICMP ECHO.

I've had broadband since 1999, and have always been pingable. The first few years of home router did not even have an option to not respond, they always did. I think it was Netgear paranoia that added the option.

I am trying out Pfsense and it has a default of not to respond. I now have it configure so that it will only respond to hosts with a similar IP address to this sites BQM. There is not much benefit it making it more widely available.

Which you can achieve by just allowing ICMP Unreachable messages, it appears.
