What is this BQM profile telling me ?

[link to this post]

Having intermittent BB drop out problems, getting constant small drop out packets sometimes leading to BB drop out. Then this happened at 08:00 yesterday ?

My Broadband Ping

If it was a fault causing the packets to drop out it suddenly cleared its self ?

Any ideas of what is causing this ?

The particular BQM you linked above does not show any dropouts (solid red lines from top to bottom) or for that matter excessive packet loss (red stalactites from the top).

There is a period of higher maximum latency (yellow) but it’s not too bad and could easily coincide with a typical point on the day of higher utilisation…early evening.
I am intermittently loosing BB. Fiber to the cabinet, BT modem, Ethernet to the TP archer c50 router. The attached snap shot shows this drop out at 22:00 and between 23:00-24:00. There are also a few sporadic small lost packets occurring during the day.

Does the profile of this drop out indicate any specific part/component of the system ?
Specifically the jagged lost packet profile fluctuating between 90% and 100%.
Ignore the drop out at 08:30, that was me trying a few things out.
Any help would be appreciated.

Now in your previous post quoted above, the BQM labelled 25/03 certainly had several dropouts in the morning and a bad case of dropped packets in the late evening. You said one of the dropouts was due to your work on the router, but are the others related to this?

When is your connection being actively and heavily used - do these periods coincide with any artefacts on the BQM graphs?

Do you have another router that you can swap out with the Archer C50?

Thanks for your reply. Having horrendous problems attaching snap shots of BQM and lost BB again while posting. Getting new router this week. BB loss happens at both light and heavy use.
Tonight's BQM when BB was lost.

Looks very much like congestion from your provider to me.
There's a nice flat BQM in the early hours of the morning then the average latency starts to climb throughout the day, getting much worse late afternoon/early evening.
Whatever happened at 6:30pm that room the line offline for 5-10 minutes seemed to stop the packet loss.

Your BQM from the 25th shows this much better.
Average latency starts to creep up at about 6pm and is worst between 8-10pm with packet loss starting at 6pm and continuing until midnight.

Out of interest who is the ISP?

Hi, thanks for your post. ISP is ZEN. Not yet contacted them just working through their website base actions, filter in the master socket new router etc.
Looks like TB have prevented me from sharing any more Snap shots. Lost BB yesterday at 18:30. But here it is anyway. Had to reset modem and then router to regain BB. So not sure if the lost packed red line is the fault or me resetting router and modem !!

What I cant explain is what happened here at 08:00 on the 26th. Nobody was using the BB during the night and then at 08:00 the max latency suddenly reduced , nobody was using BB ?? what are the possible reasons for this drop.

Is this an example of Zen changing my Network exit point from London to Manchester ? I am in North Yorkshire. I suspect it is.

Issue now solved with help from Zen customer services. 5yr old BT modem replaced with a Frit!box7530 modem router. No loss of broadband signal for over three weeks since fitted.

I am in addition still using the original TP link cable router, connected via an ethernet cable between the LAN orange sockets. TPlink router has DHCP disabled and a new fixed IP address as a sub of the Fritbox. Wifi 2.4G channels are fixed at 1 and 11 respectively.
All good so far. Very impressed with the Frit!box wifi coverage and user interface and system diagnostic information.
Thumbs up for Zen.
