ISPs that don't work with BQM

[link to this post]

My previous BQMs all worked whether they were with Virgin Media (cable) or Vodafone/CityFibre. I am now with FACTCO pure CityFibre (FTTP) and the BQM just shows up solid red.

My Asus router IP4 firewall is set to accept ICMP Echo (ping). I have tried using my IP and my router's DDNS address. No joy.

I am concluding that FACTCO blocks pings or TBB doesn't process it. Is there a defined list of ISPs that don't function with the TBB BQM?

It is quite possible that FACTCO assign you a CGNAT IP address (an address shared between a number of customers) rather than a dynamic or static address specifically assigned to you. IP4 addresses are in short supply and a lot of newer providers just cannot buy enough addresses to provide an address for each customer.

With CGNAT you can't do inbound connections because it doesn't know which specific customer to send the connection to.

CGNAT is also widely used by mobile operators because of the sheer number of phone devices - IP4 just doesn't have enough addresses to cater for everyone.

If you have IP6 available then you could potentially setup a BQM using that.

Funnily enough, I was trying to discover if FACTCO supports IPv6. CityFibre, its carrier does. How can one tell without asking them?

I have emailed FACTCO asking.

EDIT. FACTCO do support IPv6. So, will my IP address be my own alone? I know nothing about IPv6 so I don't know what I am looking for.

I now have a static IP address (IPv4) . My BQM is still a wall of red.

Progress!

I now have a static IPv6 address. This shows up on my BQM. It's nice to see a flat green graph well below 10ms.

EDIT. Strangely, my Static IPv4 BQM has started working too..
