hi there,
I am getting all red graph by using your BQM for my Fritz! 5530 Fiber router.
AVM support told me:
The Stealth Option is the only setting you can make in this context.
If stealth mode is disabled (it is) the FRITZ!Box answers to a single ping and to various pings in series.
This is the common way and the FRITZ!Box supports it to detect problems in the network configuration.
Apart from the stealth mode setting there are no other options on the FRITZ!Box side.
Can i specify a specific port and open it so that it will answer to pings and the BQM will work?
thank you,
Gabrio

The pings here are icmp echo requests and not TCP/UDP. There are no port numbers in ICMP.
I spoke to AVM last year as it happens about looking at their routers again as we might want to do some reviews of a few soon. I might pick that up if I see them again
We send one ping each and every second, so I'm not sure if the above suggests it stops after a while.
Sebastien.

well, either way it doesn't work.
Router is fully up to date with latest firmware.
So then, answer is it's not possible. Too bad.

What provider are you on? Does the provider provide an IP specifically for you or is it CGNAT (shared with other people)? Have you checked that you are pinging the IP address of the router rather than of a device in the network (if you let it auto pick the IP then it will use the IP of the device you are setting it up from which if your firewall is setup you will not be able to ping from outside the network)?

FTTP - HT Croatian Telekom - Business Line - °Hrvatski Telekom"
No shared CGNAT, it's a "normal" personal IP. Yes, of course i am pinging the "outside" IP. not the local one.
What is the address your BQM pings from so i can see if i can ping with a cmd? Can you give it to me?
thanks,
Gabrio

Unfortunately there's no way for us to change the protocol - it's down to the router manufacturer to allow the traffic. It's sad many don't let you choose.

Try using this ping test site here. If it doesn't respond pinging your router then you know it is something with your router that is an issue.

Yes it works -
With Fritz in Stealth mode it doesn't
on the BQM, it doesn't work either way instead.

It's only doing one ping packet though. Your router by the sounds of what you said may not respond for many packets.
Also the BQM packets are smaller than standard (because we do a large number of pings). This *can* cause issues with some devices thats think it may look like an attack.
Feel free to point AVM to us if it helps. Happy to work with them.
Sebastien.

Fritz boxes have a rate limit on pings which is enabled by default, so you often see failures. Any more than 1 ping a second and they tend to ignore the ping.
Many telcos lock down the settings on the router so you can't change this. There are settings in the config file that you can download from the box, decrypt (google for it) and re-upload, but if the router is being re-configured by the ISP (which they usually seem to do) you'll lose your changes.
You'll have to get your telco or AVM to help you. Or failing that, ditch their router. Having a router under someone else's control at the edge of your network is never a good idea.

they said they will contact think broadband.
Thanks for your ideas/feedback but at the moment i will leave it as-is.
