Sky latency and packet drops

[link to this post]

Hi
Can anyone help me please?
I'm getting loaded upload latency of over 500ms on my sky business connection testing on fast.com
Sky can only see that I am getting the recommended download and upload speeds. That's all they look at.
Even if if turn off the Wi-Fi and have only the PC connected to the router and nothing running in the background i still get the same upload latency.
I've had the monitoring enabled for 24 hours now. Any ideas please?

thanks
My Broadband Ping

At the moment your BQM is a wall of red. So there’s no monitoring really going on…can you sort that first?

That’s before we get into the type of broadband connection you have, where you are located - the manner of testing etc.

Is the 100% dropped packets because the latency is so high? Anylatency over xxx millisecs is classed as lost - needs Seb/John to comment.

Could be. It would have to be absolutely horrendous unloaded RTT delay.

The OP was talking about very poor loaded upstream delay. Before getting onto the heady topic of loaded (upstream) delays, best to establish an unloaded baseline for the connection... which at the moment looks to be either misconfigured or so bad as to be basically unusable.

Thanks for replying. I think it's to do with the latency because as soon as i started the monitor it shows the packets dropping. It's not intermittent.
Also I can only have the PC on with nothing in the background and Wi-Fi switched off and the upload latency is in the 500's.

Using my laptop connecting to next doors wifi with onestream the loaded upload latency is 104ms

Could the line to my business be damaged?

cheers

Pheasant, Thanks for replying. Is that simply running a test and choosing the unloaded option on fast.com?
If so then unloaded is 24ms.
I have no idea about networks i'm sorry.
Above my paygrade.

Willing to accept instruction and learn. Must have GSOH.
My postcode is BA12 7BZ if that helps looking at what Openreach can supply us here

Regarding the BQM, could it be the OP is monitoring their PC's IPv6 address rather than the routers address that ends ::1

HI,
If i do an ipconfig /all from the pc is it the IPv4 address that's listed in the results?
When i set up the BQM it does default to an IP address so i leave it the same.

No, ipconfig will show your internal network address and on a Sky connection if you leave the default address in the BQM page its most likely to be your PC address rather than your router address. Most people login to their routers to get its IPv4 address but if you're not sure how to do that then hopefully someone may post here a link to where you can find it out via the web.

Let’s see what that BQM looks like over the next 24 hours, but so far that high latency and packet loss period from roughly 2pm to 5pm may be pointing to network congestion, especially as this is a business connection.
