DNS resolution of BQM

[link to this post]

I have a BQM set up using a DDNS record in Cloudflare to resolve my latest DDNS IP and it has worked fine for years.

I have recently noticed (since 17th October 2025) that my BQM is fully red. I am not receiving the ICMP echo requests to my gateway IP at all. I have checked that the hostname is resolving correctly from a VPS I have. If I edit the BQM to use the IPv4 address directly, it starts working (proving that the issue is somehow with the DNS resolution). Obviously it's not ideal to have the BQM using the IP address as it will break next time my ISP decides to change my IP so I would like to work out what the problem is and get it fixed.

I was wondering, seeing as it's Cloudflare I have hosted my DNS on, that maybe Cloudflare has blocked the pinging IP? If that's the case, maybe I can contact Cloudflare to ask them what's going on, but wanted to check here first!

Thanks,

Your hostname points only to an IPv6 address and that's not pingable (at least not from the test host I just did - if you limit it to BQM IPs that might be a different issue.

I am confused.

My BQM, since my last post, has been pointing to the IP directly. I have just modified it back to the dynamic hostname and, after a small gap in the graph, it seems to be working now. Perhaps there was some caching of DNS somewhere in the chain that wasn’t respecting the TTL?

Either way it seems to be working now, so all good I guess!
