Do I need to ask for a BRAS fitting?

[link to this post]

My Max account was activated on 5th June, since then I have had a rock-steady but less than thrilling 2Mbps connection, which is exactly what I had before. I live about a quarter of a mile from my exchange and my Max connection was forecast to be up to 6.5 Mbps, my router has told me it is synched (sync'd? synced?) at 8128 kbps every time I have checked it. I have noticed a couple of occasions during the last 3 weeks where the connection dropped, and I smiled to myself saying 'That'll be t' line training' in my best southern accent. Nothing came of it however. I have filled in the feedback form twice in the last 10 days without any reply. My current router settings are as follows (it is a wired Netgear DG834 running V3.01.25 firmware).

Connected at 8128 kbps downstream, 448 kbps upstream
System up time 163 hours
Attenuation downstream 10 db, upstream 4 db
Noise Margin downstream 12 db, upstream 22 db

So should I be asking for my BRAS profile to be reset or is the terrible truth contained in the line statistics?

My wife keeps complaining I never listen to her ... or something like that.

I think where "Max" is concerned, the best thing to ask for is your old 2mb connection back. If BT haven't got back to me by tomorrow I'll be asking for mine back.
