Making best use of Broadband Talk and normal line

[link to this post]

Thinking about how best to do this without "wasting" one of the lines as the DECT system only allows one call at once.

I was looking for a two-line base station with the ability to run 4/5 handsets AND allow 2 lines to be in use at once.

Found this http://www.dectsys.com/ but at a BIG cost.....

How have you all arranged your "normal" and BB Talk lines for best use around the house??

I've just taken the option of plugging a dect base into the back of the hub. It means only one call out of the house at a time at the moment but also means all incoming calls on both lines go to the same answerphone.

Once the Huib phone arrives that will be paired with the Home hub itself. At the moment (and until the hub phone arrives who knows) it think that will mean I can call out on the land line, via the hub, over the regular DECT base. I should also be able at the same time to call out over the bradband talk line via the hub phone.

All my existing handsets have the ability to connect to multiple base stations. Since the Hub itself is a Dect Base I might try pairing the handsets to it directly (don't know if this would work as I'm not sure if the home hub is only set up to pair to hubphones in some way).

My set up is one DECT base station BT equinox 1200 plugged into the HUB.
This is then married up to three other BT digital handset around the house.

One Standard phone as back up if the power failes is plugged direct into another BT socket.

You can then receive and make calls over the VOIP line (higher pitch dial tone)
and receive or make calls to your normal BT phone.

Remember if someone calls you on your landline number and you pick up the call with a phone that is connected to the Hub you are tying up both lines.

Likewise if you use a phone that is connected to the Hub to dial out over your Standard BT line i.e. (when you Press 5) again you will tie up both lines.

Dont bother telling me it dont work coz it does.

I spoke to my dad on the phone in Manchester using the Standard BT line and at the same time used one of the phones Plugged into the Hub to call my brother in London.

I currently have 4 Laptops 1 PC and 6 phones all working tops.
I have had to do a couple of resets to the Hub because of VOIP failure but I think that is due to me messing about with the settings and getting the Hub confused.

Not played with the settings for four days and had no problems.

Just got to educate the rest of the famley on how to use the phones and when to press 5 etc.

I feel a drink coming on

Exactly right.

What I want is to be able to use either line from any phone in the house AND both lines at once.

The only way I can see is a 2-line base station with the hub and PSTN connected to it.

plug one phone into the Hub

and one phone direct into any BT socket in the house.

you will then have two lines.

taking note of what I said about picking up the calls.

Bit Dim me so I apoligise in advance,

I have the hub but no spare phone yet, if I plug my usual landline DECT phone into the hub will I still receive normal cals ie those from my old number, plus if I want to call out will it use my BT Talk number unless I push 5 first.

Is that right ?
