Home Hub FTP Firewall Config?

[link to this post]

I have swapped out my existing Voyager 2091 router for a new BT Home Hub but I'm having big problems getting it to let through FTP traffic.

It is set to Standard for the firewall config and I have configured ports 20 & 21 through to the ftp server. Unfortunately the client I need to use defaults to PASV model which needs to open an additional port above 1023 and it looks like the Hub firewall wont allow this.

Has anyone had any joy setting up an FTP server behind the Home Hub?

Regards

Hi,

Goto the Advanced -> Toolbox -> Application Sharing, then click on configure.

Now from the dropdown you can select FTP Server or you can define your own port to open.

This is untested for FTP but I have used this to open SSH ports and forward them to one of my linux boxes.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Chris,

I have already done that. It is worth pointing out that the default FTP setting only opens port 21 when in fact you may need port 20 open too for data transfer. The problem is with PASV mode which has the client initiate an ftp data connection on a port above 1023. Port 21 is then used for control information and the data goes down the higher port. Unfortunately the standard firewall config denies all client initiated connections unless explisitly listed in the game and application sharing settings and you dont know at the start which higher port the client will use.

well use the 'application sharing' or port forwarding to open your own set port. It is very confusing how to do it but I got there.
