BT Total broadband 217 d/cs in 3 days

[link to this post]

im on the east goscote exchange in leicester. the exchange is actualy in a town called syston but its called east goscote. i upgraded from btopenworld 1meg after i heard that i could now get faster internet as i had only been able to get 1meg in the past. on the 25th of july my package was 'switched' and then the fun started. i get cut off every few minutes, being an online computer game fan its annoying as i need a constant connection. i can have a couple of hours of constant connection and then half an hour of no internet at all. i know 2 guys who live near me and were all having the same kind of problems. bt keep saying that it must be my set up at home. it was fine when i was on 1 meg. i changed my username and password on my router to the new bt intnernet ones like i was told and have had problems ever since. i have called them 6 times now, i was on hold for 33 minutes during one of them before i spoke to anyone. BTs call centre apears to be in a forign country and i could not for the life of me understand what the last woman i spoke to was talking about and had to ask to be put thru to someone else in hope of me being able to understand them. after all this rambling i guess my question is, is anyone else having this problem? constant d/c's, 217 in 3 days for me personaly, and no help at call centres being told it must be my set up as there lines are working fine? any light anyone can shed on this would be great.
cheers
phil

Hmmm What router do you have bud? , would be helpful if we could somehow see your stats... like attention and snr see if there is alot of noise down the line which may indicate a problem your end or a line to the exchange.

i have an Edimax ar6024a4ae router. worked fine with no problems at 1 meg. im at work where i actually have internet so cant give any real stats. i have been using http://www.speedtester.bt.com/cgi-bin/home.page.pl to check my speed and it yoyo's daily. its been as low as 0.3 meg and as high as 3.7 meg. i use the one on this site after as well and the results are always pretty much the same. there always done with nothing else running as to get the reading correct. im very computer literate but not router literate. everytime i get disconnect my routers loss of signal information goes up my one. it was 217 last night, it will be far more than that now im sure. 27 d/cs day 1, 8 day 2, 182 day 3. lady on the phone said that for the service to work correctly u have to leave ur router on for 7 days inorder for them to get some statistics, and should i turn it off or there be a power cut i need to start again, sounds like a fob off to me.
cheers for the replay

Hi as this has caused alot of fustration it maybe wise to invest in a router that is more stable on a longer line or a noiser line . For example i have found that with my speedtouch it was able to stay connected longer and higher speeds than my original router.

Dont forget at 1meg you didnt have things like bras profiling and constant resyncs , it was also of a lower quality speed..

By getting a better router such as the one i have SPEEDTOUCH 546 V5/V6 or the SPEEDTOUCH 516 V5/V6 it is more stable , and you can check on stats with dmt tool and find out if there is alot of noise on the line causing your problem or basically just keep a stat check on it.

Good pieces of kit not too expensive either , but well worth getting

what an absolute gent. cheers fella. assuming u are a guy of course :P

when i went from 512 to 1 meg a few years ago it didnt work, at the time a customer of the shop i work in was a broband engerneer, for the cost of 2 cups of tea he sorted my lines out and as i was at the end of an extension around the house he changed each line box and cut out a wire from the loop that was to do with making the phones ring in sync? either way it sorted the problem and i had 1 meg for well over a year with no d/cs that i noticed at all. im just gettin back into a new online game and its annoying wanting to have a go on it for an hour but having to wait all the time cos of constant d/c is totally annoying. anyway i was gonna get a new router anyway as i want a wireless one so i can use my laptop without wires lying everywhere.
cheers for the help man. any other light people can shed will be greatly recived.

That speedtouch 546 isnt wireless im afraid but it could still be a good purchase to check on stats for so many disconnections , until its sorted. Then look towards a wireless router?

Just a hunch i wouldnt be supprised if the quality of setup by the engineer although was good enough for 1meg just isnt good enough for max adsl hence the reason for higher quality filters.

Really need to see stats to find out more, then you can say to bt look my stats are such and such

Your not the only one phatphil55 , I've had bt broadband for about 2 yrs or maybe more, was bt broadband wholesale/retail, the no bs, no email one. I was upgraded from 512 to 2048 and that process was relatively happy, I don't recall any problems. That must have been a year ago or so now.

Anyway the last few days like you I've had constant disconnections myself, so bad I've had to stop idling IRC Haven't even bothered to try gaming since my last disconnection. The only thing thats changed recently is registering interest for 8Mb broadband but that was a month ago. So I suspect the problem lies with BT :/

Hopefully it might iron itself out in the next few days
