Speed problems.....

[link to this post]

I have been using BT maxAdsl service for quite a few months now. My BT router configuration shows I should be getting the following speeds Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 7,245.
Now I have been performing regular speed tests recently, and the highest speed I recorded was 2.8 MB down.
I was one of the first to get broadband several years ago, and a BT engineer fitted a filter on the wall as part of my telephone faceplate.
I do not use these little microfilters. The question I have is, could my filter be causing this low speed. As it is several years old, would it be able to give me speeds of 6 or 7 Mb, which BT say I am capable of getting.
I might add that I have been using a voyager 2091 wireless router.

you are getting just over a 7 meg sych on your broadband as the stats tell you, your physical doanload speed is called through put and has a profile called the BRAS profile, if you stay synched solidly at this speed for 4 dyas on day 4 you should see your bras profile set itself to about that synch speed i think its around 6.5 meg for that synch anotherwords a download would get you 600 kbs on full if the source you were downloading from could give you that and contention aside.

If you check out the forums their is a BTW speedtest that works/dosent work that will advise you of your BRAS rate try it see if it works .

My modem has been synched at over 7000 for months now. It is just recently I got fed up and decided to look into this.
It is actually the Bt speedchecker I have been using, and am averaging a throuput of around 1800, where the test says I should be getting 6000.
I have tried a variety of speed tests, and they all average arounf 1800kb/s.
This is why I wondered if perhaps the adsl filter which BT fitted years ago may be holding the speed back.
Is there a tool which will let me check my Bras setting on the line?

Well the tests I have been using do not say your Bras rate is such and such, they do tell me what my throughput should be, they tell me what my modem is synched at and they tell me my actual throughput achieved.
They all say my throughput should be 6000kb/s. Is this my Bras?

Your BRAS profile is stuck at 2MB. You need to call up THD and get them to get it sorted for you. Call them on 0845 600 70 30 and good luck!

Well that will be hard, I called up they asked me what a BRAS profile was, that was after speaking to his manager about the problem.
