Constant Disconnets on 8meg Service

Hi guys, i've been on the 8meg service for about 3 months now, and the d/c's still haven't stopped. I assumed that for the first week or 2 the BT hardware would be selecting the best rate for me based on my distance from the exchange etc, and this was fine. However, the d/c's still haven't stopped 3 months later. It's worse after 9pm, where im d/c'd usually every 20-30mins, and then it's better after 12 midnight. My router tells me the following:

Any advice greatly appreciated, for example, is my SNR far too high on the dowstream?

High SNR is good. The higher the SNR the more stable the line is. It's unusal you have an SNR of 3 on your downstream and even more unusual that you have 0 on your up stream. The BRAS system usually aims for around 6db SNR and increases as line becomes unstable. I would have a good guess that either your BRAS profile is stuck or you have a fault on your line. I would ring BT and complain about the stability, although if they increase your SNR you'll most defiantly see a drop in sync speed.

Question. In the HH where do you find this information on SNR etc

I don't know what HH is, but I have a D-Link router which tells me all this information.

Ah, I didn't know a higher SNR is better. I also do not know what BRAS is, but I guess it's like "BT Rate Adaptive System" or something? Thankyou for the info, most helpful.

Indeed correct. BRAS is the adaptive system BT use to determine a stable line speed.

bRAS is the broadband remote access server. With your constant discons the profile will be set at the lowest rate that your line has connected at over the last three months. From your line stats I would say you need to have a fault sorted out on your line as this will definitely be causing the low SNR. The reason it gets worse at night is due to the increase in electrical inteference from higher loads being applied when everyone gets home and settles down for the evening thus making it seem like broadband is "afraid of the dark".
Call THD and be patient and persistent as they will attempt to fob you off. But first of all make sure that the problem is not with any extension wiring you have on you telephones.
Also check that your router cable to the telephone socket is not near any electrical source as this can cause problems.

Well i have been monitoring my router and I seem to get D/Cs much more after 6pm, and when the SNR ratio on the downstream drops to 3db. I explained all this to the THD and they said they will perform a line test and the fault team will contact me. So fingers crossed I guess.

Did you ever fix your problem. I have a SNR of 0 upstream on a DLINK as well and wondered whether you fixed this and/or whether your disconnects went away
