Is there a way to manually control your sync speed

[link to this post]

I have noticed my HH will connect at a max speed of 6900 but the downstream SNR margin is between 5 and 6.5. It will hold this speed for hours sometimes, then other times it will reconnect withing 15 mins. Sometimes it connects at 4500 with a down stream SNR of 15. It would be nice if I could control the connection speed.

I think a connection at 5500 should provide me with a fast stable line and an SNR margin of 8 - 10 which would allow my IP profile to increase.

But typically it goes from about 6500 then maybe reconnects at 4500 it seems to never connect anywhere in the 5000 - 6000 range.

You can only control the SNR on some routers e.g. the home hub.

some kit has a maxdownrate command, Voyager 205 for example. That limits the connection speed, but doesn't fix it.

maxdownrate doesn't work - atleast not how I'd have expected it to - it will sometimes force the specified rate for the immediate resync - but even after its set the router will often resync at higher values subsequently...

Instructions to dmt Tool:
http://dmt.mhilfe.de/down/st7/dmt.zip download this and then at the side near the top there will be 5 tabs go to the 4th(modem options). On that their is a big slider. At the bottom untick default SNRM and put the slider down to the second notch from the bottom. Then next to that their is a button called apply/re-sync click that.

Now next to the slider tab etc their is pictures at the top it says about downstream and upstream and the bit rate. just adjust the SNRM up and down until you get close to 10dB I set it as close to 10.5dB and I don't re-sync all the time either.

I had it work and having saved the setting and rebooted it a few times it continued to work. May depend on what version etc.

Prolly depends on your hardware - could just be its broken in the firmware I'm using for the router too... as I'm sure it used to work a few years back when I first played with it.

Thanks for this I will give it a try. Do I need to connect the PC to the HH via the USB cable for this to work or can I do it over the LAN connection ?

Not tried it with USB. Only ethernet and wireless.

It is very simple when you see it
