Traffic shaping - NOT happy

[link to this post]

I've been on BT since August and once a cabling fault had been fixed had been reasonably happy until this week. The reason - traffic shaping!

I never get any where near my cap of 40Gb or whatever it is, I would be lucky to get to 5Gb, but I have just downloaded some P2P stuff and my connection is being throttled ridiculously. Early morning I was getting over 300k, at exactly 4pm this went to 85k, at 5pm 40k and around 7pm 20k.

I wouldn't consider myself a heavy and don't get near my allowance, why is my connection being abused? I will be leaving for another provider as soon as my year is up, roll on August and good riddance BT. I suppose I should complain to them directly but having experienced their Indian support I would rather waste hours of my life having my finger nails pulled out. I am sure they would ask me to clear out my cookies.

chances are you are on a red exchange and BT is limiting so you at least get some download speed for P2P

According to a checker I found on the plus.net site my exchange LSLEE is fine at the moment. I just tried using the home hub phone and it was unusable so had to resort to the normal land line. I thought they had some kind of QOS for the voice?

I don't see why I should pay for this pathetic service. I signed up for 40Gb per month, not a glorified dial-up service. Funnily enough I want to use my 40Gb when I am not at work, it is no use in the middle of the night to me.
