New Line but slow connection

[link to this post]

Hi every one,

i got BT broadband option 3 about 4 weeks ago and for the first 2 weeks everything was ok, it was connecting at 8mb and i was getting good download speeds, then after 2 weeks i noticed alot of noise on the line when i picked up the phone and my router(the home hub) was dropping the connection all the time and everytime it did connect it was really random i.e some times 5mb or sometime 2mb etc.

It turned out that there was too much noise on the line for it to support the phone and broadband at the sametime so i unplugged the phone and the router connected stable at 576k, which at the time was better than nothing

Any way i got bt to send an engineer round to look at the line noise problem and he decided it was beacuse there was a poor quality line running from the master socket up to the telephone pole outside so he replaced it with a new one and kindly ran the line straight into my bedroom next to the PC and put a new master socket on.

Noise problem solved, the line is now excellent very clear, but as the router connected stable at 576k is now is connecting at that all the time which is very annoying as i know the line can support more.

How can i get it to connect higher, i under stand that its probably not the routers fault it will just connect at the highest it can, correct?

Anyway can get the nice 8mb i had before the noise problem back again?

thank you very much for any help you can give me

Chris

please provide line statistics...

sync speed, attenuation and SNR noise margin figures. these should be available from your router configuration pages usually under something like "adsl status" "line statistics" or such like

orly?! ya rly!

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.0 / 6.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.0 / 24.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.0 / 30.5

Info i got from the home hub

If you have just had it done you may want to wait a few days to see if your profile changes. This usually happens after a bout 3 days.

Have a quick search of this forum as there is plenty of info around.

Do you think it is best to leave the router on or turn it off during this time ?
