My DynDNS account has updated with the correct IP address even though the HH has no idea of my account details; how does that work then?

It doesn't. Are you sure that your IP has actually changed? I've had the same one for about as long as I can recall.

Absolutely, but I've changed ISP as well as IP and the last update was this morining.

How did you find out it was updated? Not by logging onto dyndns perchance?
