why such erratic shaping?

i thought it was just limewire farking about going at 6k on a few songs and constantly failing as my torrents were flying along at well over 100k. anyway i logged on the secureIX vpn thingy and im instantly pulling in 140k (secureix is slow normally as there are so many people using it and its free) i do not understand why i can spend 30 mins downloading a song at 3k or just download the album in less time? is it like this whatever your usage is?

Bt traffic shape during peak times as part of their network management program. This is now standard practice with ISP's of all shapes and sizes. It is only P2P they throttle as it is mostly illegal content and kills networks due to the volume of users.

yeah i can understand why but i dont really see much if any shaping at all on torrents but on limewire i cant download a song without it taking agges! it just seems a bit pointless to cap one so harshly and leave the other. i cant download a 5mb song but did about 2 gb of torrents tonight?

I agree there is a lot of illegal p2p content out there but there are legitimate uses for it

The creator of Bit Torrent is about to launch a legal paid for service how is this going to go down when people are paying for legal downloads and still being throttled?

lol yeah. Its brimming with it. Was it just me or did everybody miss the stories about the creator of limewire threatening to kill himself due to legal threats from all and sundry. Hence now why theirs every clause on the website to say it will be legit use. All so he feels better. Or so the story went I know it was on the verge of being dropped from their product line.

Sky P2P via Sky Anytime is legal and it goes at full speed. My main gripe with legit downloads is not being able to use the download as I wanted. I found out earlier tonight a song which I paid the princely sum of 79p for wont work in my xbox. So I have just paid 79p for a song which I cannot use the way in which I like, when I could have went via illegal channels and been able to do what I wanted with it. Hmm which will I choose. Certainly wont be buying that song again the DRM. Again with the new HD dvd formats if you don't have HDCP complaint Motherboards, graphics cards and monitors you cannot watch the movie in HD but rather standard DVD quality. So why pay to be ripped off at point blank range by some executive in America who is just making life hard for everybody by putting all this [censored] on.

I presume you didn't mean to imply all providers traffic shape, some are still relying on caps rather than shaping or a combination, though it is a smaller number every week.

Nope just all shapes and sizes which they are. I used to be with a provider a year ago who relied on caps instead of traffic shaping.
