Opinion on my line stats please.

Mmmh!

Having looked at my line stats (Thanks Rogan8) after more than an hour of uptime (and that's unusual) during which a ran a 100MB+ download, attenuation and SNR (down) don't seem too bad. Or am I missing something?

Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 1:11:33
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 7,616
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 7.56 / 141.33
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.0 / 25.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 12.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 3 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 53 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 40
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0

That's what I feared. Any ideas as to why the line drops so regularly would be appreciated. (That said it's now been up for 12.5 hours, albeit providing 1.4Mb/ses.)

As I said in my earlier post, I don't think it's my computer(s) (various direct attached and wireless attached machines.) as they have been stable in the past, are fine on other networks, and have not been modified recently. Furthermore, I've seen the line drop when none of them are switched on.

With these stats, and being less than 1KM for the exchange, shouldn't I get more throughput than this?

Regards

BobH

If the line has been dropping you may have been put onto a low IP profile, which the www.speedtester.bt.com site will tell you about

If you keep the 7616Kbps sync for 3 days then you should be back onto a 7Mbps IP Profile and see speeds up to this at off peak times

Bob, you need to know that everything you read on t'Internerd (such as "there's nothing wrong with those stats") isn't as reliable as a Volkswagen, there's more to signal quality than sync speed, attenuation, and SNR, and fortunately your HomeHub provides the necessary details and you've posted them.

Specifically:

"Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 1:11:33 <<<<<<<<
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 7,616
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 7.56 / 141.33
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.0 / 25.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 12.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 3 / 0 <<<<<<<<<<<<
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 53 / 0 <<<<<<<<<<<<
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 40 <<<<<<<<<<<<
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0"

So in one hour and 11 minutes (say 4000 seconds) of uptime your router says you've had 3 total losses of signal (self explanatory?) and 53 errored seconds (seconds in which one or more line errors were detected). Interleaving is on and has corrected 40 correctable (FEC) errors. That's far from ideal, though also far from the worst I've seen. You weren't tinkering with the wiring during the hour leading up to these numbers were you (just to make sure)?

If you haven't done so already, connect your router on a short phone lead (with nothing else in the picture) to the test socket behind the master socket frontplate. If you still have this kind of signal quality problem, theoretically there's only BT wiring (and your hub/filter/phone lead) in the picture and you can progress accordingly.

Good luck,
c_j

Do as c_j pointed out. I skim read your post with attenuation and SNR mentioned I only read those. My apologies.

These things happen I'm in the habit of wanting to check boring but important stuff like error counts, makes for a tedious life sometimes, but they're pretty important when troubleshooting speeds on Max. At least the HH provides the relevant numbers, some kit doesn't [edit: I don't visit here all that often, so maybe some regular contributors might want to get into the "check the errored seconds" lark, you never know when it might lead somewhere]

Thanks to all for the feedback. Have connected through the test socket as suggested. Line remains stable at around 1.4Mb down, but DSL connection details show it is still disconnecting. (Currently showing about 6 hours, but the hub seems to have been stable since the weekend.)

For the line speed to increase, as it is suggested it should if I stay synced at 7616 for more than 3 days, do the DSL line stats have to reach 3 days continuous connection?

Thanks

Bob

Nope you don't have to have 3 consecutve days. The profile works out by taking the average of all the sync speeds you had over the past 3 days. Once it has the average it applies the nearest profile to that. It also goes to the nearest profile down not up.
