BT Home Hub appears to have just reset itself

[link to this post]

Hi,

My BT Home Hub, which has be installed and working great for just over two weeks appears to have just reset itself. Not sure if it's relevant but my re-grade ended yesterday.

The firmware version appears the same but I think the wireless channel has changed ?

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Steve.

Why do you think the wireless channel has changed?

The rebooting is normal for the home hub, it may just have been a re-sync which is common for all routers.

Thanks.

In the Hub Manager - I went in to check the firmware version and to check the security settings were okay and the only think that appeared to have changed was the wireless channel from 1 to 6 ( I think).

Not sure what you mean by "reset itself". If you mean that settings that you have made to it have reverted to default, it has probably upgraded to 6.2.2.6. Unfortunately when that happens it loses all of the User Settings.

Both my PC and my Mum's laptop were connected to the Internet at the time (web browsing) and our connections dropped. I noticed that all the status lights on the Home Hub were flashing which I think I've read somewhere means that the HH is resetting or having the firmware updated. I am still waiting for my 6.2.2.6 update - the HH has been online solidly for 2 weeks.

Yeah 6.2.2.6 does not seem to distribute to all hubs properly. go to http://192.168.1.254 and look at the bottom to see which firmware you have.

Not to worry about the wireless channel change thats actually better, channel 1 tends to be congested and whats happened there is that the hub has seen that the current channel is useless and it has used the reboot to change the channel to a better less crowded one.

Thanks for the info about the wireless channel, Paul.

On the Home Hub's presentation page, at the bottom of the page, it says Software version:6.1.1.R.

Do you think I should force a firmware update ?

If you wish to the new firmware will be out very soon.

To force the firmware you must be connected via ethernet.

Read this PDF: http://static.btopenworld.com/broadband/documents/BT_Home_Hub_recovery_instructions_Windows.pdf

Then the firmware is here:
http://static.btopenworld.com/broadband/adhoc_pages/drivers/HubFirmwareRecovery_6226.zip

Make sure you read the PDF it has laid out the steps in a simple manner. 6.2.2.6 brings a lot of stability upgrades but several things don't work correctly on it. You may wish to wait for the newest firmware which should be out anytime now.

Paul,

Are one of those things the fact that the Phone Light is no longer lit up? Friend's hasn't been alight for weeks now. although hub phone all working correctly. On Friday I installed another Home Hub for someone and it was the same, no Phone Light but their DECT phone working perfectly fine through the Home Hub.

I forgot to look what firmware it was on - will have to contact both of them later.

Nope when the phone light is not on it means that BT Broadband Talk has not been setup on the hub. If it is usually lit up say it was in the morning when you left but when you came home at 6 it was off that could just mean that Broadband Talk is down.

When BB Talk is not configured in the home hub calls will work fine as they are just routed over their normal 01or 02 number therefore not VOIP.

It's really easy to set it up too, just go to http://192.168.1.254 and on that page there will be a link called something like set-up broadband talk click on it. It will take you to a page where you put in they phone number and password they got in an e-mail and on the next page configure my router a pop up will appear telling you how it got on then the phone light should be on!
