Slow speeds on Bit Torrents

[link to this post]

G'day,

I have a BT Business Broadband have exhausted tech support without much success.
I believe I have a 2WIRE BT Business Hub.

Problem:
=======
Slow download speeds when downloading through Bit Torrent.
I get extremely fast downloads when downloading files from web severs. I don't believe my line is the issue, but I suspect the BT Business Hub.

Bit Torrent initiates a lot of sessions and I think this is being filtered, etc. by the BT Business Hub. I have tested with the firewall completely off, on, and even open the port used for Bit Comet to operate, without any success.

I have a Linksys router at home and intend to try this very soon to see if my suspicion is correct.

Has anyone noticed anything similar?

Thanks, Smacky.

If the 2Wire is running NAT then it may be saturating its lookup table, reducing the number of simultaneous connections in BT may help.

It is also possible that you are experiencing traffic shaping from the service provider.

I didn't think about pnat table saturation. hmm..

Traffic shaping? More like "session" shaping.

Thanks for your reply.

if your are d/l torrents between 4pm and midnight then yes you will be suffering from traffic shaping/management max torrent speed around 30k

As said before you are being throttled by BT, it only affects BitTorrent peak times, mine are currently capped at 12kb/s.
