Poor speed compared to neighbours on Tiscali

Hi everyone, I have had BT broadband for about 18 months now, I'm about 3.5Km from the exchange ( Langley Mill ), and have been receiving a speed of 1 Meg which I presumed was down to the distance I am from the exchange. My neighbours have broadband through Tiscali, and have just had there speed increased to 3.5 Meg, so I called India to enquire as to why I was only getting 1 Meg. After going through all the usual check filters etc, etc they told me that Langley Mill is only capable of supplying upto 2 Meg ( although they didn't still didn't say why I was only getting half of that ). Does that mean that the BT equipment is only capable of upto 2 Meg, and the Tiscali equipment is better, or (as I suspect ) are they giving me a load of bull ???

It's sales you need not Tech Help, your neighbour is on whats called ADSL Max you will get the same speed as they are once you have upgraded.

put your number in there and look at the fixed speed section (sugest your line can only carry this) then look at the max result if the max result is greater than 1.5 meg call broadband service 0800 800 150 and ask them to regrade you to max

Provided your phone line to the exchange is as good as your neighbours!

Many thanks for your replies. I should have mentioned that I'm already on ADSL Max, but it's never made one bit of difference.

Using your link it says 'Your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps, and a potential of 2Mbps or greater'

so according to your router stats you should have an upload of 448 ish ?is this correct

If you want to know why your line is relatively poor check and post your line statistics (attenuation, sync rate, SNR Margin).

Yes it does, and the downstream is at 1344Kbps, although the speed checker on this site gives me 0.9 Meg which I presume is due to overheads ??

I'm a bit confused now, does that mean I'm at 1.3 Meg ??
