Line Stats

[link to this post]

Have just had these results from Speedtester.bt.com
Test1 comprises of two tests

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 6000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5515 kbps
2. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 439 kbps

Can anyone help by explaining why I have two sets of data when I only used to have the top one?

Hmmm - Dunno - never seen that before.

I've just quickly done one and got the usual:-

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6057 kbps

I know that doesn't help - but maybe suggests it's something at your end???

I got a similar result to this when i use BT Vision
On mine the second part was qos whist having BT Vision VOD.
After switching BT vision off for about ten minutes the tester reverts back to the correct 1st part info.

Just checked mine it now reports the same as yours in two parts regardless of vision being on.

Can only assume that it is someting to do with the way vision has been setup on the line
Everyting seems to be working well

The assured rate test is there because you have BT Vision.

This is to do with Quality of Service, where BT Vision requires a minimum amount of bandwith to function properly.

Your Best Effort Test IP profile is the maximum throughput that you can get from the exchange for internet traffic. Although you may have a profile of 6000 kbps you may actually achieve considerably less depending on exchange capacity, traffic and congestion.

The Assured Rate Test IP Profile (in your case 500 kbps) is the minimum amount of bandwidth that has been reserved by BT Vision to ensure that it functions correctly. In this case, the exchange will endeavour to provide this bandwidth to BT Vision above other traffic at the exchange and on your internet connection, so that it can still function correctly during busy periods.

I hope this helps to explain it a bit better.
