eMail issue any ideas?

[link to this post]

All,
My email has been working fine for years! All of a sudden it's starting to fail on one of my BT accounts when sending from the Outlook client.....any ideas anyone??

Set-up:

XP Sp2

Outlook 2003

Error message Task 'mail.btinternet.com' - Sending reported error (0x800CCC0F):' The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or your Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 553 From: address not verified; see
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html '

I've tried the instructions on this link but with no result...strange thing is it works fine on my wife's email (same Outlook instance - just different user!) and worked great until yesterday. Worrying thing is emails look like they've been sent but haven't!

Have you tried logging into the account using the webmail interface? http://mail.yahoo.com

Yes and it still works fine on that....so it sounds like an Outlook setting...but given that I've not changed anything I can't figure out what...

Hi - Are you getting any error messaages, if so can you tell us what they are, eg 550 messages?

If it is an oulook setting, compare this with your other account settings (sorry iif this sounds too obvious)

As an aside as a matter of course I export my email settings to MY Docs - this creates an IAF file which can be imported again if things go wrong

Error message is as typed in original post i.e. a 553. Curious thing is the settings were working until late last night and I don't think anything changed!

(PS I'll try the export hint for the settings thx for that)

Sounds to me that you might have inadvertantly removed the tick in the box that says "my server requires authenication!" for the outgoing mail server - BT requires this.

Also if the tick is present, look at the settings - assuming you use BT for inbound and outbound , the box requiring the"use the same server as for inbound mail" should be ticked, alternatively BT sometimes respecifies the user name and password in the "log on using" boxes..

Really foxing me now...

1) I've checked the settings against the other account they seem identical

2) The My Server requires authentication is checked

3) The use logon details as per incoming mail is checked

4) The outlook test generate successful send and receive

But when I go back into outlook it still fails with the mesage in the original post

Any throughts?

Okay sounds to me like a corruption - had this with a BT client this week - just two courses of action.

1. Clear the email account and set up gain - most likely the password is unsynced. To be sure I'd switch the PC off after clearing the account.
2. Phone the dreaded Indian call centre and get them to reset your password.

the above cleared the problem for me this week.

Good luck

I think you're right --- I've just exported all my emails onto another machine and outlook works first time with all the same settings!

Quick question.....did you install and re-install to clear it out?
