Synch but no IP, even on bt_test

[link to this post]

Hi there
Recently had a regrade with BT to 16 IPs. Upon trying to use these I encountered difficulty and logged a call with faults. The Internet connection was working at this point, just not on the new range.

Shortly after logging the call, I was unable to pick up an IP of any sort, not on the normal gateway username or the bt_test@startup_domain username; synch speed is showing the full 8128/832.

It appears faults sent someone to the exchange; is this normal for an IP query?
Several phone calls to faults and I am still nowhere, can anyone advise a number for a 'network support' style line or give me a clue as to what I should do next. we've been without Internet fora day and a half now and I've no confidence the normal channels will get this sorted any time soon.

thanks

bt_test@startup_domain should provide a dynamic IP irrespective of what the service provider supplies.

The problem is probably a combination of reconfig of your hardware combined with BT Retail. For business 0800 800 154 looks to be the number to call, and given you are paying for this block I'd kick up a good fuss.

Did you get told to do what this link says to do, which is how to configure the hub.

Hi Andrew
thanks for the reply.
The equipment is customer supplied in this instance and has been swapped out for a new unit to no avail. I've also tried new RJ11 cables, *just in case*.

Where do you suppose the fault lies if no IP is being assigned, even on the BT test account?

The router log shows only the following:

ppp: LCP Starting
board 0 line 0 channel 0, call 9, C02 OutCall Connected 512000
board 0 line 0 channel 0, call 9, C01 Outgoing Call dev=5 ch=0
board 0 line 0 channel 0, call 8, C02 Call Terminated
ppp: LCP Starting

The PPP session never comes up, not sure it even gets to the authentication stage. Still showing full synch though and the line worked flawlessly just before it dropped.

Does another device connect to bt_test@startup_domain?
Was any reconfig carried out to the existing router...if yes try rolling this back to see if you can authenticate.

No authentication if you have sync, usually means wrong router config, or something messed up at the Wholesale level

first thing i would do is get hold of a speedtouch 330 usb moden and enter your details into this. if it does not connect with your username/password then try the bt_test@startup_domain if it still fails to connect, the circuit hasnt been built properly.
hope this helps

Thanks for your reply but I have no way of getting hold of yet another router; I have already tried two, one of which originally worked on the line for months.

I now have an ITSM advising me it could be Norton *sigh*

I'm beginning to think migration is now the only option...

Bit of a late update, just to let you all know, this was an exchange problem. Apparently, they did a simple line card reset and the problem went away.
There was no issue with the CPE.
