Re: bt box and NTE5 Master socket inside house

If there is a fault before the nte, they shouldn't charge to fix it. Unless it is due to damage by the customer or customers agent. If someone phones up and asks for a box to be moved or replaced, they will charge.

"So If the wire or the small box that leads through the wire to the
NTE5 Master socket is faulty
Do OPENREACH Have to replace or repair it free of charge "

Yes, as long its not caused by damage or neglect by the end user.

Communications providers are required to advise end users of the possibility of charges if they are responsible for a fault.

As stated, its not an RF filter, it just s terminal for connecting the external cable to the internal cable. It looks a bit untidy as the technician has rightly left the unused pairs inside the box. Other than the cable tie not being around the cable sheath there is nothing apparently of issue there.

As far as i'm aware is that BT will only cover external wear and tear damage... Things like asking them to update the wiring will charge you...

My advise would be to report as fault and get free of charge visit from open reach to check your equipment... the engineer would advise you if he can update your wiring and if any charge would be incured. Also including in the price that BT quote is a 'Call out fee' so if wiring was to be replaced on this free visit then it would/should not include the call out fee

I worked on Customer Service for a few years but have been away from that for about 4 years now.

From what we've seen it looks all normal - no signs of corrosion, frayed cables etc

Its put top back on junction box and think about another solution. Even with no extensions testing in the test socket is worthwhile in case the contacts on the faceplate have got dirty over the years.

If it is random noise drop out you may find that the problem is the 1m or 2m cheap RJ11 lead - this may not have twisted pairs in it and could be where noise is being picked up that affects the ADSL.
