BT Home Hub v2 - still naff

[link to this post]

A few years ago I entered the realms of BT BB as I moved to an area without cable availability. This would be my first encounter with ADSL. I received the wireless router (Voyager 2091) and had no issues. I live approx 3km as crow flies from my exchange, so I was happy to get approx 2mb downstream, even though I was paying an arm and a leg for it.. Soon into that account I upgraded to a free-of-charge HomeHub v1. I found I had to keep restarting the home hub as the down speed would keep dropping to under 200k. So I went back to the Voyager for a stable conn between 1.9-2.2mb.
Then came out the HHv1.5 so I got one of those and the same thing happened, it would not keep the down speed, so again I had to revert back to the trusty Voyager 2091, with which I experienced no issues for another 12 months, apart from the occasional line dropouts from BT.

After badgering (I lost count at 5 calls) to sign up for another 12 months with BT, I did so with a delivery of the new HH v2. Very nice style, looks good. However I have had to restart this HH again every day as the down speed keeps dropping to 192kb or lower. Restart and its back up to ~2mb, then next day, falls again. Replace with the trusty Voyager again and all is good.

What gives with these home hubs? Anyone experience similar? My albeit trusty Voyager is getting a little plain and doesn't support 'N', anyone recommend another 3rd party router?

Seriously, 3 home hubs have lasted less than 2 weeks use put together.

Very strange that you are having these problems, my home hub is fine and I got a very long line from here to the exchange.

My broadband connection
Your broadband line is connected.
Broadband connection details:
Downstream 3,072 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
Connection time 8 days, 20:31:21

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 57.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 19.0 / 7.0

Speedtouch routers are normally pretty good on long lines, that is why I gotthe speedtouch 585 before i went to Bt.

I do admit, people do seem to have more problems with the Bt hub than any other router, but may be that is because there are so many out there.

Adrian using Linux on his laptop and loves it.

BTBroadbandanywhere type package.

Are you sure that's not some sort of connector, cable or filter problem? May just be some sort of localised interference tha the voyager is better at dealing with.

Have to say, on my 9.5Km line the HH2 has been the best router by far for sync speed, and reliabilty seems fine. As an alternative you could try a 2Wire 2700, this is "g" only, though there are hacked ones available that let you mess about with the wireless output power, and some report good results with these.
