BT FON and Home hub 2

I just had an interesting conversation with BT over my home hub and BT Fon.

I asked them why, despite signing up to BT fon, my home hub wasnt enabled. I asked them if there was a fault

They asked me to contact the openzone team and they explained, that my home hub was not registered with my telephone number (that suprised me, considering it set itself up).

They asked me to get the serial number which I found on the box and now I am all set and ready for it to go.

So if you want BT Fon enabled, you need to call

08000223322 choose opt 4 and have your serial number ready (its either on the unit or the box and it starts "SN: *CP").

interesting isnt it! I can imagine then that most peoples home hubs are not enabled!

No, I eneabled it on the router, log into the router config page, go to services, find where it says about Bt fon and clikc the link, it will take you to a web page where you can Join.

TBH, fon is not that great, well certainly not around here or in town, I have not found a Fon point yet, I found a couple of Openzone, but that is about it.

thats the problem, after you join, the config settings are sent to the router. Unless your home hub has been associated with your broadband number it sends a standard config that is refused by new hubs.

From what I can tell any Homehub that belongs to someone registered for BT FON will show up as 'Openzone', when you connect to an 'Openzone' wireless network it will tell you exactly what type it is (if its comming out of you pre-paid minuites or not). Since signing up my Homehub transmits its FON point as 'Openzone' along with everyone else I know.

Mine seemed to opt itself out for a while, now its back in. Never bothered me too much I was still able to use Openzone hot spots for free
