BT MSO?

[link to this post]

Had to go back to the office to reboot a server (long story) and noticed BT broadband was down. Called the helpline and it has a front end message that there is a broadband fault under investigation so I guess it's pretty major? Nothing on the BT status page.

Hey ho!

I lost connection to the BT centrals just now for about 15 minutes... back up now but bandwidth seems a bit bursty and connection is ocassionally stalling for 5-10 seconds.

Thats basically what happened to me - connection resynced but couldn't establish a PPP connection so no IP, etc. lasted about 15 minutes and then was back in business... fingers crossed no more down time.

EDIT: Can't get to many of the BT services like email atm tho.

I'm back home now and monitoring the work's BT connection/router through a VPN I setup that gets into head Office through its second (ADSL24) broadband connection!

My head hurts - going to bed hoping it's all fixed in the morning otherwise I'll have to change everyone's default gateway!

The BT Business helpdesk is seeing a fault and gives the resolution time as "soon" residential when I last checked was still reporting everything was "fine".

Hi,

First post here, so please be gentle with me! smile

My BT Broadband has been down all night. Finally got hold of a support guy at about 7.45, it seems they ran an upgrade of the static IP platform last night, which promptly failed and took down "all" BT static IP services nationwide.

Anyway, mine just came back up about 10 minutes ago. Seems stable at the moment, hope it stays that way!

Just thought I'd mention it as it would explain why residential services were reporting no problems.

I do think BT could be a little more helpful, though. Their phone message all night has been "there's a known issue (no location), please call back later". Which is about as helpful as their broadband service has been all night... I tried calling business support last night, but I tried at 11.00 on the dot and they close down for the night then.

Anyway, glad I've found this forum as a result. People on here seem to be more clued up than our esteemed ISP! smile

Welcome.

And that looks like useful info you have posted.

Re the useless message, that probably goes on by just clicking a button by someone techie who isn't authorised to make actual changes to public info, so can't enter specific information. But is allowed to click that button to show that they are aware of something wrong that is being investigated.

It may be automatic, as you can predict it is a fault by looking at the sharp increase in calls
