Oooh! Might get myself one of those.

My speed has just increased by about 500k, but will try anything to get it up higher.

Hi

In the real world after fitting i-plate allow 3 to 10 days for your speed to improve.

With luck you then will see the best speed your line can give.

That should be the IP Profile and so the actual download speed, taking a few hours to 5 days (realistically 2-5 days).

The sync/connection speed should should improve immediately, if it is going to. A BT Speed Test should confirm that a higher profile can be expected. (As would router stats).

I've just fitted an I-plate and my line stats jumped from 4900Kbps to 6016kbps. I.ve never got them download speeds so have just done a BT Speed test and got these results.

I'm on BT Broadband 3

Test1 comprises of two tests

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 6016 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3143 kbps
2. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 600 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1919 kbps

So does thet indicate that my my IP profile is stuck?

PS. Ignore my signature, it's old and I must change it smile

Namesco

Download Speed: 5808 kbps (726 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 363 kbps (45.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Just had a marginally strange result with my BT i-plate.

I have no home extension wiring on my master socket, so according to BT an i-plate would not improve speeds.

I have a BT OpenReach logo'd master socket, so again according to BT an i-plate would not help the speed (but may improve reliability).

I had an eBay source i-plate already fitted.

But I tried the BT i-plate - and I am now running with a downstream about 200Kb faster than I have ever achieved before. And if the reliabilty is better, sometime in the next 24 to 48 hours my profile should be adjusted upwards to 3000 Kb - never had that before.

Nope - it takes 2 to 3 days of continuous running for the profile to change - so don't switch your router off.

That's great!

As has been said - 2-3 days, though it can technically be up to 5 days. It depends partly on the percentage jump and partly on how busy the BT profile updating system is, so I think yours could 3-4 days as it is less than 50% jump.

This table and the explanations above and below it will help smile.

Slight bit of further info smile.

Switching the router off doesn't in itself cause a problem. The danger is that line conditions when it is switched on again are not as good so a lower sync is obtained, below the higher profile requirement. If left connected then the normal fluctuation in SN Margin would be expected to absorb the change in conditions.

There is also the possibility that conditions would be better, so an even higher sync.

Importantly on BT-based systems never disconnect/reconnect/re-sync more than say five or six times during an hour. (The probable limit is actually 10 times so I advise playing safe).

That would cause the line to be treated as unstable, and the "target" noise margin applied at connection time to be increased. In steps of 3dB costing 500-750kbps per step.

To get a 3dB drop after that happens does need almost continuous connection for 10-14 days.

Dropped down to 4,480 Kbps tonight. Been dis-connected a few times and every time the speed drops.

Weather has been awful though, could that be the problem?
