Business Webmail

[link to this post]

I have a business account and currently need to access email through the webmail portal https://myoffice.bt.com/

My PC location date and time are set to UK with the date format corresponding to standard UK of 14/09/09 for the 14th September 2009.

When I access https://myoffice.bt.com/ through FF 3.5.3 and select options, it gives US date formats such as 9/14/09, 09/14/2009 &c but when I try it in IE I get the UK formats.

With other applications the date is correct in FF but not when accessing https://myoffice.bt.com/

Please can someone else check and see if they get the same.

The comment from the BT helpdesk was - use IE. Which is not acceptable - they have a faulty application but are unwilling to resolve it.

As you only get the problem with Firefox if I am reading your post correctly.

Did you download the UK version of Firefox or the US version?

Just a thought.

Got myself a BT Connect address.
Firefox 3.5.3 - logged in - both in Mail preview and the full mail client date shows as DD/MM/YY

Tried IE 8.0.6001.18702 - both in Mail preview and the full mail client date shows as DD/MM/YY

Tried Opera 10.0 Build 1750 - both in Mail preview and the full mail client date shows as DD/MM/YY

In Firefox changed Preferred Language from EN-GB to EN - date shows as MM/DD/YY
Changed Preferred Language back to EN-GB - date shows as DD/MM/YY

Changing language in IE and Opera to just EN or EN-US - date shows as MM/DD/YY
Changing language in IE and Opera back to EN-GB - date shows as DD/MM/YY

The comment from the BT helpdesk was - use IE. Which is not acceptable - they have a faulty application but are unwilling to resolve it.

I can understand the BT comment, it works in their supported environment, so the only fix they can provide is use the supported environment. From the testing I have done, it looks like YOU have a faulty application, are you willing to resolve it ?

I have now tried it on 7 different PCs - two here and five at different locations including two within BT. All (except one) with FF 3.5.3 and everyone displays mm/dd/yy ...

As for a faulty application - which would you suggest is faulty?

Whatever the browser in use that gives MM/DD/YY is faulty in its set-up. Even though it may be installed as the GB version, the language it will ask web pages to display in could be set to anything. You cannot always tell easily from the user agent which language is set though, you need to check this under Tools > Options > Content tab.
In the Languages section click on Choose, the language at the top of the list is that which websites will use to display. My expectation is that this will be either EN or EN-US on your setup. Move EN-GB to the top and it should fix it after a refresh of the page.

Hi

We are currently looking into this case in the BT Business Forum, i am not sure if you put the same question in there or if it was another customer.

We have asked for this to be looked into and will supply a response when one comes back.

The link is: http://btb.lithium.com/btb/board/message?board.id=My...
If you would like to keep updated.

Kind Regards
