Finally decided to leave BT and requested MAC....

[link to this post]

As it says after a few years with BT I have requested my MAC and I intend to go over to O2 Premium a.s.a.p.

The 2 month's free plus the Quidco cashback make it to good an offer not to miss. Even if I don't bother getting an O2 PAYG sim (no point as I am in contract with Vodafone) it only makes it £10 more. I won't be getting a massive increase in my download speed but an increase in upload speed plus a net cost of £50 for the year make it a no brainer.

The only question is will BT take the full 5 days to send the MAC code through?

You can sign up to O2 (don't forget to clear cookies and go through TopCashBack) and supply your MAC later. See this post made today.

Thanks for the link Roberto. I signed up earlier but I didn't know cookies could cause a problem, so I have deleted them.

Just waiting for my MAC so I can place the order smile

By sign up I meant place the order - through a cashback site! If you have signed up to the "Not ready to switch yet" goodness knows what will happen. You will be able to tell us smile.

Or did you go through TopCashBack and did it take you through the normal O2 order form and is that what you mean? In which case it should be showing it as tracked. (At least it would on Quidco, I haven't used TCB).

I haven't placed the order yet but I did have every intention of doing through the cashback site. I was waiting for the MAC to arrive before I did anything.

It actually arrived in my Inbox a few minutes ago along with a sweetener to remain as a BT customer; 12 month renewal at a reduced price of £15.49 per month and a new Home Hub 2 (not that there is anything wrong with the one I have).

I may have been tempted if the network perfomance wasn't so bad in the evenings recently but as it stands I will signing up to O2 this afternoon.

Gone through TopCashback and ordered O2 Premium. All went smoothly, so it is just a case of sit back and wait (and set up any new email accounts we want).

Thanks for all the advice and I will start posting over in the O2 section with any updates and what my connection is like once it changes over.

I suggest that you get ISP-independent email if you haven't. Now is the time.

Once you have that you never need to change email address again.

I use Purple Cloud, as in my sig. 1 & 1 is another popular paid service. Googlemail is free and many like it, but I don't fancy all my emails going through google.

Your own .co.uk or .me.uk domain (more choice on .me.uk) costs £7.50 every two years. If you want you can set up unlimited free email addresses line fred@yourdomain.co.uk and forward them to a single ISP mailbox, but far better is to pay £10 per year for the Home email service to go with the domain. That gives you 10 mailboxes and umlimited aliases and means you are only dependent on one mail service working, not two.

You made the right choice smile

Seriously, the only way BT can survive is because of its protected monopoly. It is a sad story that for many users the only way to force BT to offer some decent telecom and customer services is by publishing their problems here on this forum, or by writing to the CEO, or sometimes through Ofcom.
