BT broadband service ID

[link to this post]

I've been having intermittent trouble when my BT broadband speed drops to dial-up level (eg 75 Kbps download). I'd like to use the Bt speedtester, which I understand works best with Internet Explorer ( I normally use Ubuntu and Firefox, but can revert to Windows if necessary). The BT speedtester asks for my service ID, but I don't know where to find it. It's not visible on my BT Yahoo "my account", and it doesn't appear on my monthly credit card bills for the broadband. It's apparently not the same as the number on my BT telephone bills. I'd be grateful for advice on how to find this BT service ID.

hover your mouse pointer over the little question mark.

You do not need this id, just select yes, type your telnumber click GO

Thankyou for this suggestion. I've tried it, but the BT speedtester program only provides up and download speeds
when I use the phone number, and I'd like to be able to show BT that I have a full range of data. The reaction when I report a fault is always that there is something wrong with my equipment. However, the faults have always turned out in the end to be something wrong with the line or at the exchange. I have switched off the wireless router and reverted to ethernet cable, so I can be sure the wireless is not at fault.

If I try to migrate from BT I will need the service ID, so I'd be very grateful if someone could advise me how to get it.

So what other data are you trying to get to support your fault.

The ISP has full access to what your IP Profile is, they should NOT be making you run this test to tell them the IP Profile.

Well, I've been following with great interest the discussions on thinkbroadband which tackle broadband problems with reference to a wide range of data and was hoping to be able to educate myself to do likewise. It might also help if BT knew that I know what they know.

Does anyone know how I can find out my BT service ID?

As per the popup when you hovver over the question marks, "You need to call your ISP to get this ID"

Thankyou for this reminder of what it says on the BT speedtester, which emboldened me to try telephoning again. (I'd tried before, but had been told on one occasion that their computer had no record of my service, and on the other that the ID was on my broadband bill - but it wasn't.) I've now been told what my service ID is. It has too many characters to fit into the space on the BT speedtester.
