Noise flurry on line = Noise margin raised...

[link to this post]

Quick sanity check, folks, if you please.

On Sunday PM the ADSL dis\reconnected several times in the afternoon, there appeared to be a clicking noise on the line at the time. Bad news is it looks like the DLM has upped my noise margin, which is enough to drop me two profile steps on this uber-long line. Dammit. I was coasting along with a 1500 profile a couple of weeks ago...

What are the odds of getting the 6db margin back? Any better than they used to be?

well if you keep a stable connection it is supposed to drop back automatically. Cant say for definate it will as others have pointed out over the years dosent allways do what its supposed to. You could try ringing tech help but i doubt they would understand your request tho

good luck on that one

Just to answer my own question, I fixed the problem that appeared to be causing the noise (poor connection between faceplate and NTE5 socket, bit disappointing as the NTE5 is a new-style Openreach one), reconnected, and waited.

It took about 10 days (with no disconnections) for the noise margin to reset, but is now back to a 6db default. smile
