bt infinity question please..

Hi all,

im getting BT Infinity installed on Friday but the master socket upstairs is a little damaged as my dad acidentally fell over the wire 6 months ago and the faceplate come off and the phone line does ot work anymore and the dsl line has to be put straight into the master socket, will i get charged for any of the installation on Friday?

How are you connecting to the internet then - through an extension? If yes, and that extension is wired to the faceplate, which I assume you replaced, you should be OK as the faceplate gets replaced by the FTTC one.

Or are you connecting some other way?

Hi its an extension cable which is straight into the master socket without the faceplate on, i didnt change the faceplate as it worked without but i still have it if it needs to be put back on

You mean it's a plug-in (phone) extension cable? With a filter on the end of it?

no i mean the dsl cable which is an extension cable goes straight into the master socket direct no filter on it at all

Still sounds OK to me, unless you get a really grouchy engineer. He'll probably just fit the new faceplate - unless the screw holes are wrecked. If they are, a new master socket I expect would be around £30, or free if he's in a good mood.

Hopefully no charge, he has to work on the socket to filter the new faceplate etc

All depends on what precise regime that is in place your area, e.g. account for every single bit of socketry, or whether the old bit of helping is ok
