I look after a few clients who use BT Business Broadband...
I've just had a few hiccups with their DNS addresses.
I used to use 194.72.6.57 - is this no longer any good?
213.120.62.97 is still working.
BT's broadband HELP pages point to these settings http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_...
It might be me being dim but 'dns01.gpn.register.com' doesn't look right - I'm guessing they might be web HOSTING DNS not ADSL?!
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks...

On my infinity hub it says:
Primary DNS 194.72.0.98
Secondary DNS 194.74.65.68
|
|
|
Thanks for that, I'll make a note.
Accurate BT documentation would help

My Business Infinity picks up:
Primary DNS: 194.72.9.38
Secondary DNS: 62.6.40.162
I believe BT has several sets of DNS pairs that are referenced - as for the Algorithm - who knows! The probably only put one set in the documentation
I have seen my Secondary as a Primary elsewhere and my Primary as a Secondary ...

But their documentation has non-numerical characters in it - for a DNS address?!
My Windows system only allows numerical digits...

|

Well you need a DNS server to resolve those addresses!
dns01.gpn.register.com 98.124.192.1
dns02.gpn.register.com 98.124.197.1
dns03.gpn.register.com 98.124.193.1
dns04.gpn.register.com 98.124.194.1
dns05.gpn.register.com 98.124.196.1

Yep - that's what I'm getting at!
Which leaves me to think those DNS addresses aren't for ADSL - pls see first post

Just for the record (and for my reference when I next need them!)
After quite a struggle talking to BT Care via Twitter over the last few days - and having to complete one of their 'twitter forms' as they were unable to answer what I thought was a simple query, they've replied this morning.
Current BT DNS Servers
194.72.9.34
194.72.9.38
194.74.65.68
194.74.65.69
194.72.0.98
194.72.0.114
62.6.40.178
62.6.40.162
They have a number of Help pages on their website supposedly documenting and linking to ADSL DNS addresses but they don't actually document the server addresses!
Hopefully BT will correct their online docs so that when people reference it a 10 minute job doesn't turn into a 3 day one

Hopefully BT will correct their online docs so that when people reference it a 10 minute job doesn't turn into a 3 day one Four management committee meetings to make an initial recommendation, plus three to seven with union reps in case staffing levels may be affected - think of the number of man hours consumed in those three days - are needed before any such website change can be made.

Yep - that looks better.
I've been having a few email conflabs today with a few BT staffies - they did apologise for the quality of my responses (via Twitter) since Thursday as well
Hopefully this will help other people that need to specify addresses for BT customers.

I kicked someone from a different direction to get the change sorted!

??? Oh - nothing to do with the BT people dealing with 'rogue help pages' that I've been talking to today then
If there are more than one set of people dealing with this at BT then there's scope for the current addresses to be removed I guess! If not they will be very confused...

My HomeHub has currently been assigned...
Primary DNS: 62.6.40.166
Secondary DNS: 217.32.171.22
... which aren't in the list. One is on the BT DNS page, but isn't with the one it is supposed to be paired with.

|
|
I think there are still others not on that page.
At least the published list shows actual DNS addresses now - so I call that a result...
When I spoke to BT I pointed out a 213.xx range. They said they've been working there for 4 years and never heard of those and didn't think they had ever been used - so I gave them the Help pages documenting them!

Hehe, I just restarted the home hub to see if I got different ones and got 213.120.234.2 as the secondary DNS, so they are definitely being used
