Hello,
I am currently in contract with BT for a combined package of phone, BB and Vision in my old house, and am moving to a new-build house next month. Currently I have normal BB (not Infinity). The new house is a terraced house, and if I enter the details in the BT website it offers me a sorry 8MB max speed and no Infinity. However if I enter the next-door neighbours house number (who has already moved in and activated their BB) then it offers BT Infinity.
Is it normal to need the phone line installed before the system offers BT Infinity or can I get them to install it when they're installing the phoneline (engineer's visit booked)? Postcode is HP4 2FX if that helps.
Also, all of my wifi kit is G only, so can't make full use of the improved speed, but if both me and my housemate are using equipment on G will we be able to use all of the avaliable speed between us, or is the limitations of G shared between all the users?
Many thanks,
Chris.

Is the next door house the exact same postcode?
If yes, then most likely just an error in the database. Phone number look ups are much more accurate.
The limitation of G is shared between you.

Thanks Andrew, the house does indeed have the same postcode.
Is there any likelihood of convincing BT to install Infinity when they install the new line, or am I best just waiting until it's installed and I can use the checker with the new phone number?

If you've already ordered the house move/new line, no chance. Even if you haven't, I wouldn't be sure you could.
There is a special type of order number, LORN, you can get for a new line, and if that is sent in to Openreach with a broadband order the two are supposed to meet up and happen on the same day.
It often goes wrong, I haven't heard of it being used with Infinity, and I haven't heard of it being used with a house move.
But no harm in asking.
If you can't arrange it, don't forget that for two or three days after your phone goes active the database that is used for checking broadband availability, (by both you and the automated ordering systems), will have the estimates for wherever that number went to last time it was used.
If the figures are good, no worry. If they are bad, don't panic. Try every day till they change.
Edit - Ugh - I put SORN, meant LORN. No off-road internet please!

Just re-read your opening post. Am I right in thinking the whole lot is on a free House Move job?

Linked Order Reference Number (LORN) for a simultaneous provide.
Unless they changed it and I missed it.

It often goes wrong, I haven't heard of it being used with Infinity
Openreach visited my flat on Wednesday to connect a new line (well, it was a stopped line that needed reconnecting in the cab - no dialtone, etc) and Infinity at the same time.
Whilst it worked out fine, he was expecting an active line and didn't think he'd need to get the PSTN side connected. But all went through and activated fine in one order
So, yes, it's possible!

Happy as larry. Especially now that I've managed to circumvent the traffic management, too. Got 217GB downloaded last night
