Is nice when it all works as it should. Do you have the upto 80 down and 20 upload.
Sounds like you have the capped 40 down and 10 up as speed is held at that if line could do more but you pay for that.
what I got at the £18 month. Just did a test. can do a bit more like half meg down and up but this is pretty normal.

Ours would do as the unlocked modem says
e Status
Help
Downstream Upstream
Attainable rate (kbit/s) 63384 22207
Ok if paying more but no need.
Mine has errors at 40 as the modem says so if it would do over 60 and be ok, who knows.
We had o2 at 10 meg and about 1 up. Had this when it came along last may. Unlimited ( not that usefull) but the older untraffic managed package, not to worry as long gone.
This BT seems good, spped for me mostly where the speedtest on other post says.

So its in, a great engineer installed it.
Wireless i am getting around 50 down and 15 up, and over ethernet, that goes up to 68 up and 18 down.
when he tested the line (and he showed me) he said it supported 80/ 20 so if it stays like this then i am a happy boy
|
|
|
If the line supports 80/20, why are you only seeing 68 down?
Depending on OS, you need to check your MTU and RWIN settings. Run the DSL Reports Tweak test at http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

You have me there, i do not know

Run te test and see what it says ...
Also, run a few different speedtests (with Task Manager - Networking) running too and see how they all compare. Task Manager will give a graphical representation - if flat topped for all you are at max (for one component) ... if up and down, then there could be issues somewhere.

Nite? Are we not in England?
Donuts, fries, sidewalk, color, center, chips (Pringles CRISPS), candy, cookies (not the web sort) - has America so bastardised our language?

yes yes i know i did not proof read properly lol

Ha ha. I'll say nothing, because my "proof-reading" is sometimes less than perfect! It's just that the sloppy way we speak now - along with all the American silliness - pees me off.
Infinity?
Well, I've had the 40/20 Infinity for over a year, with very few problems - typically 28/34ish down & 4/8ish up.
However, a few months back BT said I could go on their 80/20 package (estimated 52 down & 12 up): I took up their offer, at a slightly better price as well, but have had a few problems - with performance dropping to 25/15 on occasions. With much moaning from me, numerous fiddling about exercises by them, I now get between 55/66ish down & 12/16ish up. The problem is that, for no obvious reason, it drops considerably at random, still leaving me with 25ish down & peculiarly full whack up!
On balance I'm very happy with. Cheers, Les.

ditto, jumping from O2, install; on Friday 27th July
fed up with these lousy O2 speeds

Infinity If it Ever Arrives so far it has been oushed back by 3 months on 4 occasions so far.
This does not say much for BT's Avance planning
|
|
|
Imagine a gantt chat with 30,000 rows for each cabinet, and the allocation of teams, so if one cab in another town is delayed by a couple of days e.g. weather this can knock on, and end result is those lower down list always appear to get pushed back.
At least you are on a list

I moved from O2 - 3 megs down and 1 meg up ...
Mind you that WAS good, Orange via BT managed 135k-160k (yes, "K")
Running at 55 megs down and 8 megs up on homeplugs! Will get 17 megs up if I use multiple streams.
Just watch out for the Homehub 3 type B, this version of the hub causes me no end of problems (see my other threads). Jusat read the label on the bottom.

I use McAfee with Infinity and get the full 37Mbps almost all the time. It does slow the computer on bootup though as it searches for updates.

well hub arrived today and its type A hub
|
|
|
|
Type A ... lucky you ... you hopefully should not see the nasty bug which switches some of us to under 1 meg on our LAn (fixed line) ports when the line gets a reset of some sort (usually a remote poke by the BT systems!).
Some people have reported that the Type A hub does not have as good a throughput as the type B though ... so you may get a lower speed with it compared to a Type B - but it's all swings and roundabouts with Infinity 2 ...
Let us know how it goes ... all useful info, good or bad!
Mine's been good at 55 megs now for a couple of weeks. Upload? Well, the single thread tester shows about 8 megs, but running multiple threads shows it will go at 17 megs - so it's good to go at the mo'.
