80/20 Infinity problems

Hello, I'm losing what little hair I have left!
Twelve months or so of 40/10 working pretty well most of the time - so no problems.
Persuaded to start new contract with "80/20" upgrade - OK........
Since May this year I have been on to BT no less that 40 - yes, 40 telephone calls to resolve an issue - still not done.
Random checks with the proper BT tester, TBB tester, speedtest.net tester and the iPlayer tester (ookla?) show my speed varies between 18-65 meg, but on many occasions it has gone down below 10meg - and on two occasions below 1meg (0.47 & 0.89). Over this period I could be reasonably sure that if I did 3 or 4 random tests in any 24 hr period, the results would likely be 2 >50meg & 2< 20meg.. No rhyme or reason, that's just how it's been - until today when I spoke to a "level 2" person! Three tests today are all below 12 meg (red section on BT's bar graph). An intriguing thing I notice is that TBB downloaded files have typically shown 14/18 meg, but each time I use the TBB speedtester a few seconds after, it shows 45/48meg. Seems strange to me.
Any random thoughts?

Can't help except to say my speed apart from a some outages in the early hours has been very high and constant. That's to say you should be getting the same service. I'm afraid you will have to keep pestering them.

Cheers. That was the case with the 40/10, a couple of outages - to be expected and accepted: with the 80/20 I haven't a clue what they have done, but it's never consistent. They're supposedly ringing me back tomorrow, so we'll see what they say.

Are you testing wired or wireless? (It probably doesn't matter, as it was OK on 40/10, but it may).

Has the supplier been able to provide a graph of connection speeds? Just to rule out a physical line issue.

Otherwise it sounds like contention.

Hello Bob and Ian72, Couple of points.
No, always use wired connection: 2 metre lead from VDSL to modem/ half metre lead to HH3/ half metre lead to PC. No extensions at all. Very rarely use the laptop on wireless: desktop gets 99% of use.
Contention? I think perhaps not, because we're talking about the sub 20/sub 10 at ANY time of the day: can't think there'd be excessive users at 4am!
Yesterday from 1pm to 4am this morning figures were below 20 & even below 12 (cut off margin for supposed Infinity provision). Just turned PC on and the figure is now nearly 60meg - perhaps BT have done "something" as I told them yesterday that I was fed up with their "non-returned calls" and that four and a half months down the line I should have reasonably consistent figures. I said that were it not to be done by the end of this week, then I'd cancel my account and get in touch with the CEO's office. I'm not really a Victor Meldrew character, but all the problems and the "fobbing off" is getting pretty tiresome. The link below shows today's figure and one of yesterday's

Huge difference on the upload too.

Hi Bob, Thanks for the reply. Yes, there's quite a difference between these two upload figures, but quite typically the upload stays between 12/16meg when the download is 0.89 to 65meg. Any thoughts on why this should have come about since the "upgrade" to 80/20?
Is there any suspect technology on the higher speeds?
A couple of miles FTTC and about 3/400 yards to my house.

Unfortunately no, but BT did send me another HH3 about three months ago - in the early days of this problem: made no difference!

One hour on and still a good speed - did they do anything since yesterday - or is it coincidence?
