They were supposed to update the firmware on the HH3 to stop this. Maybe your update to SP12 was applied yesterday?

That would be nice if it were the case.
If so, then why, I wonder, have they blathered on over the last 4 or so months, when all they had to do was say they are aware of the problem, and are working on it: that would have kept me "reasonably" happy because, as I said, I've only lost BB a few times when they were doing maintenance.
Time will tell, Bat, and I'll be curious as to what they say in this evenings call, when I ask them about firmware upgrades!

Oh, unlucky - that's the Homehub 3A but they didn't fix that, they fixed the 3B.
Well, they released new firmware for the 3B anyway, which they claimed to have fixed it.

Got an Echolife HG612 modem.
I've got somewhere - I just remembered - a HH3 B that my mate had fleetingly used on a BT business account. If I can find that - along with its psu - do you think it might be worth a try?
I assume that if I do use it, it'll update to the latest firmware when I connect?

As you have the HG612, you could always hack that and use it as a modem/router like I have done.

Would the hack enable the second modem ethernet socket, as I use Netfix (via WD Live) on one of the others from the HH3? Or would I need to buy a 5/8 way ethernet switchbox?

Yes, you can enable that too, and you can just use the HH3 as a switch and WAP by turning off the DHCP and not using the WAN port.
