Any other Infinity users seeing nightly packet loss?

[link to this post]

My Broadband Ping

Sunday (Last night) -

My Broadband Ping

I do use another latency monitor which shows nothing out of the ordinary for the same nights so I'm wondering if it's a problem with the TBB QM and/or a routing issue?

Yes, I am about to call tech support about it ... but comparing yours and mine they are very, very similar and suggests that the problem could be with the TBB monitor or one of their links. Prior to those three days there was a small period on Thursday too but nothing before.

I have exactly the same looking graphs for the last few days eg :

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/953a1110735...

I was certainly using the line over this period and would have noticed any loss like that if it was on my line!

I am guessing either the problem is with the monitor, or looking at the times, perhaps a device somwhere on the path lowers ICMP traffic priority - perhaps dropping it totally when the network gets busy.

Have you stolen my current graph! It looks remarkably similar ...

I am failing to connect to a lot of websites over the last day or so (didn't use the internet on Saturday) and have noticed there has been a lot of cable stolen from a lot of areas.
However my works normal adsl2 connection didn't have problems today (apart from being slow), but I do with Infinity and I'm located only 15 miles away from work.

Tried to phone BT, was on hold for 20 minutes, so gave up as there must be a lot of call and problems.

Based on looking at various BT BQM plots can see perhaps 1 in 10 have the same issue, but that means it is probably nothing to do with us, or how BT link to us, but might be more to do with one route through the BT network or a RAS issue/node

yes, this site is taking ages to load and cannot run any speedtests java or flash.
Only noticed this last night but still the same this evening.
Only other site behaving like this is BT forums.
Speedtests on other sites ok for some reason.

My connection has been pretty flakey over the last couple of days. Cannot connect to EA servers today and a number of websites are taking a while to load. Looking on the BT forums there are a fair few other people suffering from the same issues. Hopefully BT will sort it soon.

If not all sites then trace routes may show a common link

I don't know if I will manage to get this post in, as I have not been able to access this or many other sites in the evenings for several days. The issue seems to be with anything routed via above.net

There are many posts on the bt.com customer forums that show similar issues, but nothing seems to have been done as yet.

It is horrendous ! Taken me minutes to get through to TBB and a page load. Other sites, including the BT Business forums are fine ...

This has been ocurring on a daily, or more correctly a nightly, basis since Friday 5th October 2012. The problem seems to only be with sites routed via above.net. In general it all seems to start at ~7PM, gets progressively worse, and then starts to work again by 11:30PM - midnight.

I've been getting huge latency on Plusnet fibre at those times, for the last few days, not caused by anything I'm doing. Click the BQM link in my sig smile. No noticeable packet loss.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet Extra Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 56.0/13.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

BT said in a statement to The Register:

We are aware that some customers are having trouble accessing some websites and online services. This is due to an issue with a peering network beyond BTs service boundary. Our support team is working with a third party to resolve the issue asap. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

A number of readers got in touch to tell us that they were struggling with BT's service due to a "major packet loss".

The company's customer forums were also full of posts about the problem, which some claimed originated from overseas traffic going through Zayo-owned AboveNet in the US.

El Reg understands that BT is not the only telco affected by the peering problems.

We've asked AboveNet for a statement and we'll update the story if the company returns our call. ®
