I've criticised BT often enough so it's only fair to give them credit when I should. I live just outside Helston (3 miles horizontally and 400feet vertically from the Severe Flood Warning area) and we've had horrendous weather - torrential rain and howling wind. Throughout, our broadband connection (ADSL) has not wavered, not a single break. It's not exactly fast but it's been constant throughout, as far as I can tell.

BT has some very resilient infrastructure in that area ... There is plenty of diverse and duplicated routing and switching capacity to move the traffic without interruption.

But not on the final half mile or so which is mostly (but not entirely) overhead cable - I can't say much about the next couple of miles to the roadside cabinet except it has at least one subterranean junction. Still, I was pleasantly surprised that it all survived - I don't take these things for granted!

Overhead cables rarely become submerged by flood water, especially when their poles are grounded 400 feet above the flood level, which is also probably a little greater than the depth of the Openreach subterranean junction box ....
