I'm seeing similar patterns on nonVPN tests.
I should be upgraded to Totally Unlimited tomorrow; it will be interesting to see if the patterns change.
Are you zagnome on BT forums? I'm sjtp.

Have they confirmed the order?
|
Register (or login) on our website and you will not see this ad.
|
|
Yes, they have indeed confirmed it.
The reply email didn't explicitly mention 'totally', and only mentioned 'unlimited' in a telephone context. No mention of no throttling and only quoted the plan name as 'Broadband - BT Infinity Option 2', but it did mention 50GB Cloud so should be the right one.
I won't really believe it till I see it; that part of BT seem to be remarkably creative when it comes to ways of getting things wrong.

How long between the "Your BT.com order confirmation" and the actual order confirmation email?
|
|
Hi, I've now had three emails.
12:43 Your BT.com order confirmation
14:15 Thanks for your BT Order: here's the detail
17:20 Your BT service is ready: see what's next
The third one is a little misleading.
My cloud account page shows 50GB, but my Cloud page still thinks 2GB,
and Glasnost thinks my BitTorrent is limited to 77kbps.
Maybe the details will trickle through the archaic BT server setup over the next few hours?
>>>
Oh, and together with the reassuring statement on my account page:
No Phone in this Account ... No Broadband in this Account .
Just updated to
We can't find your calling plan details ... Unlimited Broadband with BT Infinity 2
And back to
No Phone in this Account ... No Broadband in this Account .

Hmm, I've only received the first email. I bet I'll have to wait 5 days before calling them!
|
|
Which broadband package is listed under "track my orders"?
|
|
Yes I have seen the same mess.
Basically.
I ordered over phone and was told 5th feb activation date by lady on phone and email.
Few hours later same day got email saying order completed. (activated early?).
Glasnost still reported shaping on port 6881.
bt com still reported me on the old package.
Yesterday signed up to bt cloud to do test and got 50 gig space, but was then told by someone on bt's forums everyone gets 50 gig cloud even when not recontracting.
Noticed yesterday also my order (which showed as completed) said the old package name. But when I tried to initiate a new order on the website that was rejected stating I was already on the new package, so more confusion.
Rang up BT again this monring, lady said I am already on new package since saturday, and website is out of date lagging behind. Glasnost test after that call still showed 6881 throttled.
Now having just woke up have ran new glasnost test showing no throttling but conneciton hasnt been reset for change of package yet.
I might test BT cloud to see if throttled, but I am not keen on installing BT's app.
see here.

edit now a big LOL
My bt now shows me as having no phone or broadband service.
--edit--
uploading to bt cloud via web interface is full speed, no vpn.

@Zadeks
My initial BT login page https://www.bt.com/appsconsumeraccount/secure/myBT.do now correctly shows 'Unlimited Broadband with BT Infinity 2'
My Cloud is also showing 50GB.
My Glasnost test around 9:00 still showed upload throttling (to around 1Mb).
Same again (9:30)
Your ISP appears to rate limit your uploads.
Details:
* Your ISP appears to rate limit your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests, uploads using control flows achieved up to 15863 Kbps while uploads using BitTorrent achieved up to 982 Kbps.
* Your ISP appears to rate limit uploads on port 6881. In our tests, uploads on port 6881 achieved up to 15863 Kbps while uploads on port 42029 achieved up to 984 Kbps.
I expect it will sort itself out eventually?

If BT had two hands the left hand wouldn't know what the right hand was doing. They have 100 hands, and none of them knows what any of the others is doing.

does it say this below it tho?
You have unlimited broadband usage
View your broadband usage >
-> BT Infinity Option 2 <-
Is confusing as mine said the exact same thing before I recontracted.
But I guess its moot now anyway as glasnot is clean for me now not even port 6881 is throttled.
Is your upload traffic rate limited?
There is no indication that your ISP rate limits your uploads.
Is your download traffic rate limited?
There is no indication that your ISP rate limits your downloads.
The cloud services also tested clean for me also.
When did you do your order?
I started getting clean tests last night and I ordered on saturday.

I think what you seeing is normal for https, its like the ftp protocol in that you will have poor efficiency in transferring many small files, much more efficent to compress them into a single file.

A good protocol should be able to use the same https connection for multiple files.
When I back up small files to SquirrelSave I do not see this issue.
Testing using FileZilla (can't get much more standard than that) it is using several parallel threads (even when I tell it not to?!, see below), but each thread gets its ssh connection and hangs on to it for all the files it processes.
Any properly written backup solution should do something similar.
~~~
FileZilla seems to apply the parallelism option to a queue rather than a server; so a new transfer is now working single threaded.
FileZilla smallish files, single thread/connection, 5 Mbps.
FileZilla smallish files, multiple threads, 16 Mbps.
BT Cloud, smallish files, 0.7 Mbps.
there is an app for bt cloud that might work better, but I lost the download link.
I think something has gone wrong for me because it still lists "BT Infinity Option 2". The order status is complete. BitTorrent uploads are still limited to 1Mb/s and cloud upload speeds still throttled.
It does take 5 days from when your new contract date comes into effect for the p2p restrictions to be lifted.
|
|
welcome to the confusion of the BT website.
to give you hope mine still says infinity option 2 but now my p2p is unthrottled.
What is the listed activation date for your order?
also a good way I thnik to test is try to do an order for the product on the website, it should reject you stating you already on the new product. If it does give it until the activation date.
Estimated activation: Tue 05 Feb 2013
Status: Complete
When I try to upgrade via the website, it says: Sorry the package you've chosen isn't available. Please choose an option below.
|
|
what does it say for your existing package?
did your order only change to complete today?
Mine was set to complete the same date I ordered and then the 4-5 day lag is supposedbly 'after' it goes to complete status.
@Zadeks: It does sound as if they have got your order wrong.
Are you still only on the first email?
On the throttling. Have you tried uploading a biggish file and checking the Resource Monitor trace?
Glasnost is still showing throttling for me, but I do get that reasonably solid 10Mbps upload to BT Cloud with a large file.
Looking forward to seeing throttling removed after the 5 days after completion;
but I think the BT Could issue is a separate one. We shall see.
he is best to ring up and get them to verify, the BT website seems a mess and shows the old product name. For me it only shows the new product name when I do the failed upgrade and it shows the new product as my existing product.
Zadeks here is a screenshot.
On the left is what shows on my order page. Can see its the old product, most of the accounts pages say the same.
On the right is what shows when I attempt to do a web upgrade. The correct product name,
I agree; good luck with the call. The guy/gall on the other end of the phone will only have access to pretty much the same underlying wrong data ~ and will probably misinterpret it too.
I'm now seeing the same as you.
Old package on order page and new package on upgrade page. There is hope.
