Low download speeds on Infinity 2

I've got BT Infinity option 2 (the 75ish Mbit one), when I first got it (about 10 months ago) it was super fast and I consistently got 72 Mbit on speed tests - recently it seems to have plummeted.

Just did a speed test now and got 5Mbit download and 15Mbit upload - has anyone else seen this kind of epic slow down? I did get it when it was new in the area, is contention trashing it?

If its contention then should be fine around breakfast time.

Have you tried turning off the router and home hub to make sure its not just an odd low sync that is the issue

nope, still geting 45meg and higher here at any time of day.

Are you testing on wireless or ethernet? Try with an ethernet cable plugged in to computer and homehub.

I've got wifi switched off and my desktop is the only thing connected to the HH

Lots of similar complaints on BT Infinity forum: mostly (but not exclusively) from the south-west.
Many (most?) BT users are not suffering this way. I'm not (Hampshire); fingers crossed; and not gloating, just for information.

Moved (with trepidation turned relief) to BT Infinity 2 for upload speed. Happy BE user for several years.

It could have been a localised fault on a switch or fibre restricting traffic from one area. I doubt if it was contention - to take you down to that level would mean every user would be downloading large files at exactly the same time.

It's on it's way back down again now, just got 15Mbit down.

A fault appeared on the BT service status page shortly after I'd phoned them and has just been cleared, back to 72Mbit/s at all times smile
