Bt are running cable miles from god knows where they are nearly into my village, So does anyone think it might be fibre for super fast BB? I hope so but I cant find any info anywhere.
My village is misterton in notts and the exchange is misterton as well, the exchange is SLMIS on samknows but it doesn't say anything on there either.

It may well just be a trunk cable between two exchanges. You really need to see what it is they are pulling in, fibre or copper.

how can you tell?

Last winter BT ran fibre right through my village linking two exchanges (not mine!). In the process the sub-contractors 'damaged' the existing copper trunk so BT came and pulled new copper through the village. Progress, eh?

bummer, did you get fibre out of it though?

You look at what is being pulled in, or is on the big reel behind the wagon, or even ask one of the heavy mob doing the work.
A general rule of thumb, if the 'cable' has prominent yellow stripe/s on it, it will be fibre.

No!

fibre tube is like a black hosepipe with a yellow stripe, large multicore cables are fatter, heavier and just black. No doubt there are exceptions.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Its fibre, the cable looks exactly as you lot describe a black one with a yellow stripe but more than that I asked the bloke putting it in and he said 'Its fibre mate we are going to the exchange'.
Awesome, how long do you recon before I will be able to get it? Also I just renewed with BT so I can get the footy will they let me swap it to a fibre one when it comes out with out having to pay off my contract.

Provided you recontract, yes.
When you say recontract will that involve me parting with wedge up front as that makes me sweat.
No, it just means that you will be on another 12 / 18 month contract no upfront cost.
Bare in mind my exchange started accepting orders around 6 weeks ago and still only one cabinet on the exchange is accepting orders..... on the BT order page it tells me on my phone number by September but this could change and the speed prediction is 34meg down 9 meg up. Better then the current 1.8 meg down and 0.30 up though

Well it says we are not down to get it at all, we are not on any list or anything I can find and the checker just plays a bloke laughing like a loony when I check my phone number so I dont know whats going on. I suppose I am getting my hopes up for nowt but its nice to hope.

Just because it is Fibre doesn't mean it is for FTTC!
Most exchanges are connected up by fibre already to the main nodes, some will need additional fibres for all sorts of reasons, one of which is for FTTC / FTTP. Others are just to get to other exchanges further on, for business use, Or to replace older fibre that is now obsolete.
However fibre has to be available for FTTC/P so this may be a precursor. Misterton does not show on any of the Openreach lists, so should come under one of the BDUK contracts. You need to look on the correct Superfast site for the area most likely http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/living/business/br...
I can;t see any timescales mentioned yet so likely to be in 2014.

Yes, but some folks perception of how long a cable run is varies.
Misterton exchange looks like the kind of size (1500 lines) that isn't going to get included in the commercial rollout, but may well be included in the BDUK rollout.
From kitcat's link, you can see that Notts haven't got as far as choosing their supplier yet - and had to restart their tendering process after being awarded more money by the EU.
Just because it is Fibre doesn't mean it is for FTTC!
You'd think, by now, that any job that required providing fibre to an exchange would automatically include provision for future NGA fibre connectivity - even if only to make sure that enough capacity was available.

Yea its ok I have lost interest now, I doubt we will get it any time in the next millenium but it was a nice thought while it lasted.
