Now that Ian Livingston has gone...

Who do we contact at BT to get things done? As we all know emailing Ian (or his department) usually gets things done and yields results. Now that he's stepped down from BT who do we contact?

Gavin Patterson is the new CEO. I suspect google will help with email addy but will be the usual @bt.com format.

Which one of his three email addresses though?

Senior people at BT have at least one and normally two others which are only known within a select senior group.

I would suspect Gavin will no longer help you and would refer you to normal channels!

Ian has helped me to make things happen twice in the past. Ian is unique and he will be missed.

Got a feeling your probably right, which will suck, I've had to go via Ian and/or his executive level complaints team (or the head of openreach for some issues) to sort way too many issues that there simply was no way to get dealt with via normal support as all they could do is refer me around and around in a loop.

Yep those at the top aren't always as good as their predecessors.

I found this with Apple when I emailed Tim Cook. The response I've had as been at best okay but definitely there was no sense of Apple going out of their way at all for me, even at the executive level. Their solution was to visit my local apple store for a repair which is currently 3 hours away from where I am. There were no appointments at the store last week or this week so they told me to try next week. I lost my rag slightly as they almost certainly aren't in the real world expecting me to travel this far & go machineless for weeks whilst I try to get one of these rare appointments.

This is a sharp contrast to the Steve days. I feel BT will go this way too with him leaving.

Ian and his executive office have helped me loads...

When I had massive issues ongoing with BT for a few months, he personally told BT connect to sort their Poo out basically and listen to what I was telling them. In the end I was right and the whole 01283 area code got fixed because of me and Ian's team.

I even had a call from his office while at work thanking me for helping them fix their network and dropped my price down to 0 for 3 months and now it's VERY CHEAP (undisclosed fee)

So he will be missed greatly and I hope his next in line will carry on the good work.

His email will be open until November and monitored by his team.

To me Ian was defenitly fresh air to BT, he dragged them out of their backdated thinking and pushed the FTTC rollout, he also did help me twice when I emailed him.

Of course we dont know yet what the new guy will be like.

BT Retail is an utter shambles, I say this based on the experiences of friends, relatives and myself when dealing with them - hope the new guy can sort it out!

Gavin Patterson has served as chief executive of BT Retail and as a BT Board member since 2008, having joined the company as a senior executive four years prior to that. He will take over as chief executive of BT Group in September.
