BT Mail sign in page

Looks like the new BT Mail sign in page is live (finally):

https://signin1.bt.com/login/emailloginform

It redirects to BT webmail or BT Yahoo webmail after log in, depending on which platform the mailbox is on.

Hmm typing tracert smtp.btinternet.com no longer goes to yahoo either

As far as I know, the official address for smtp and pop3 is mail.btinternet.com - perhaps smtp.btinternet.com is being used for testing.

Other servers probably used for testing are: pop3.btinternet.com, pop.btinternet.com and imap.btinternet.com (all aliases of mailbox.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk)

They throw up a certificate warning when attempting to use them, due to them using self-signed certificates. Quite surprising for them to do this with domain names which might commonly be "guessed" as mail settings by BT users.

CP is now the preferred mail exchanger for btinternet.com (again)

btinternet.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mx-bt.mail.am0.yahoodns.net
btinternet.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = mx.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk

Also, a CP server is now being returned as one of the addresses for mail.btinternet.com

Name: mail.btinternet.com
Address: 65.20.0.43

So it looks like BT are dipping their toes in the CP water once again.

If you do happen to resolve mail.btinternet.com to 65.20.0.43 (or you force it via the as-yet unofficial server smtp.btinternet.com) then no check is made to validate the "from" address is actually yours and you can send "from" any address you choose. Perhaps this is to be the new intended behaviour.

An unfortunate downside of this is that since CP is mail forwarding BT mail to Yahoo, SPF is currently being broken by BT's setup and incoming mail is more likely to be incorrectly flagged as spam.

The final BT Mail isn't finished yet. I'm one of trialists testing the system the test I'm on is due to finish on 14/10

Thanks for the feedback.

I would have thought they could trial the system without breaking SPF due to mail forwarding, though.

For me it redirects to an error message. Still have to go to BT Yahoo mail page manually.
