BT WiFi and Xbox 360

I'm trying to connect my Xbox to a hotspot, I am unable to connect through a laptop computer either via ICS or bridging.

How does the hotspot identify authorised devices? Is it by MAC address? If so, could I not just spoof the MAC of another device on the Xbox to allow it to login without authentication?

BT Wifi service identifies devices based on the login details you provide via a web browser, or an app on iOS/Android phones.

But once you're logged in via a laptop, what is the identifier? It can't be a cookie.

Why not a cookie, could a session stored on the server side.

Remember the Xbox has a web browser, have you not tried to use that?

You can't use the web browser without being logged into live, you can't use live without being logged into hotspot, catch 22.

I'm proposing I log in with a phone and then spoof the mac to the xbox, then the xbox should connect, in my mind, because the session does not expire as soon as the connection is lost?

Cannot see that working.

The BT WiFi would at best see the MAC in use from two different devices, plus don't believe the MAC address is visible to web browsers, i.e. the website you sign in on.

Except the hub will see the MAC. I'll try it anyway and report back.

This should work. The Cloud use MAC addresses to keep sessions going.
