Hay Guys,
I remember reading last year that BT will be offering BT Infinity Self Install from 31 Dec 2013.
I have been to the BT.com web page every so often but cant see anything there.
Is it all on hold?
Has anyone got any news or update on what this might happen?

People are getting self installs done, a reasonable scattering across the forums.

Infinity 1 can be done as self install, but #2 is engineer install? What's the difference between both of them?

I suspect it's a speed issue. BT perhaps feel that those going for Infinity 2 or a TV option will suffer more, or more accurately, notice more the effects of poor internal wiring.

Infinity 2 is capped at 80/20 Mbps.
Infinity 1 is capped at 40/10 Mbps.
With less than half the speed, BT are probably thinking there'll be plenty of SNR margin to handle noise issues due to poor internal wiring. However, if you live on a poor line anyway and your Infinity2/ Infinity1 speeds will be low, they will optionally not allow a self install but insist on an engineer.

So, reading between the lines, a self install perpetuates the situation we have with ADSL where I have to use filters on all phone sockets but I can plug the modem / router into any of them? Though, obviously, I can replace the faceplate myself and run an Ethernet cable to my preferred modem / route location.
Thanks,
John
